I thought that the Gumball was "invented" only a few years ago, has the site of the gumball (http://www.gumball3000.com/) says. But.. caught a movie today where there were a few rich guys doing a race. In the end of the movie I saw the name and it was: "The Gumball Rally", and the movie is from 1976!!

It is a nice and comic movie with a few nice cars.

I think Maxamillion Cooper based his "Gumball Rally" FROM those movies. like that one and "Cannon Ball Run", I'm sure there's been others he's used for inspiration.

The two of the most favorite parts of the movie to me is when they started the race at Times Square. They actually filmed the cars screaming out of there very early in the morning. And the last 20 min. of the movie when the Daytona and the Cobra roadster race each other to the finish line. No music, I believe; just the sound of the engines and tire squeal.
