hello,

yesterday i received a scale model of a 360 modena 1:18. i was/am happy like a small child and have observed it already for a long time. i saw that at the rear tires, there are like 2 braking calipers. i checked it at some pics and saw that it also is like that in reality.
( http://img51.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img51&image=Ferrari360062.jpg ) i can't immediately see the purpose of this second (grey) braking caliper. or is is something else?

should be nice to know what it is!

ps: the f430 also has this

thx

why does it have a separate caliper for the handbrake?

You know, I've noticed that for years, but never gave it much thought. Now that I have, I'm going to agree with the other guys, it's gotta be the handbrake, as the handbrake is a separate cable-operated system from the hydraulic actuating mechanism of the normal calipers. My guess is that if you look at most any rear drive car, the setup won't be too far different.

The AM Vanquish has them, as do the DB9 and the DB7, Acura NSX, Dodge Viper and SRT-10, Ford GT, Mustang, etc...etc...etc...

thanks all

maybe it's because my engineering studies, but i really wanted to know its use!
and because i never saw them at a porsche, (also rear drive cars) i hadn't any thought what it could be.

thanks!

well you didn't look close enough them  , the Porsche Carrera GT also has the same system...as you can see in this pic:
