here is the new ford fusion that i think is the replacement for the taurus. i like the styling a lot but ford needs to do something with that duratec 200hp 3L v6. its simply not powerful enough, especially in the 500/montego which are bigger, not to mention this. it was decent back in 1996 or whenever it came out but i mean an engine needs upgraded after 10 years on the market.

The engine ought to be a 220bhp unit, as that's what the hi-po version of the engine is in the Mazda 6, and in the Mondeo ST220. Since the Fusion is based on the Mazda 6's architecture and running gear, I'd expect the same engine, albeit with Ford tuning parameters as opposed to the VVT system that Mazda fits.

I think your engine info might be a little further out of whack than I did originally. It occurred to me this morning that the 3.0L Duratec hasn't been on the market for very long at all. As far as I understand it, there are a couple of different 3.0 V6 engines in the Ford stockpile. The Duratec/Mazda unit in the Mazda 6 and its platform-sharers is based around the architecture of the 2.5L which was originally in the Contour/Mondeo/Mercury Mystique/Cougar etc... The 3.0 in the Taurus is a different engine so far as I can tell. There are actually 2 for that car, 1, the Vulcan which makes all of 150bhp and 2xx lb-ft of torque and a Duratec unit that produces 200bhp and 200lb-ft or something of that nature. However, I'm fairly confident that it's a different basic engine architecture than the unit in the Mazda 6 and what will be the Ford and Lincoln counterparts.

hmm actually you are correct about that i believe, i apologize if i was wrong  however the main point i was trying to get across is that i am almost certain that whether its the same engine or not, it is currently making the same amount of power i.e. 200hp and around 200 ft-lbs that the taurus was making back in 1996 with the 3L V6.

They may be in the proses of putting togeather a Yamaha V8 for use in the XC90 and may also use it in the 500, could it be possable for this???? anyone for the reincarnation of the SHO in the Fusion

The XC90 has no Yamaha V8. The V8 that is currently in use in the Volvo XC90 is the same basic unit as the AJV8 in the Jaguar S/XJ/XK and also currently in use in the LR3 and Range Rover. The last Yamaha/Ford collaboration was the 3.4L V8 unit in the Taurus SHO. While it was a tuneful and relatively spunky engine, there's no reason that it should be put back into production. It was underpowered for the Taurus, 235bhp was nowhere near enough to tow that barge, and thirsty, the best mileage we ever got in our car was about 19 mpg, think about that for a moment...19mpg, and that's on the non-imperial gallon, i.e. only 4 quarts to the gallon, not 5. It had terrible range, a rather atrocious ride and handled...well...like a big wallowy car with extremely stiff springs and a big heavy engine in the nose. If any V8 is going to find its way into the Fusion/Zephyr/Mazda6, then it had better be longitudinally-mounted, rear or 4wd, and the engine should probably be some version of the AJV8...probably the 3.5L unit that Jag uses in its low-level XJs.

yea that last SHO v8 taurus was pretty crappy, i dont think it was faster with the v8 anyways compared to the previos high output v6 they had because of the weight and also there was no manual transmission for it.

i loved this concept, 590hp from the 7L V10. has very similar body lines the the chrysler 300C. should have produced it, but i guess it was just one of those concepts that are made to show a companies future design themes.

Yup, that's the one, you should look around and see if you can find an engine-shot of that car...it's pretty impressive lol...so's the interior actually...sort of retro-modern if that's possible hehehe.

What i read was that there was a new motor being designed with an output in the range of 300 plus bhp. and i may have been wrong about the xc90 but know it is to be used in some crossover ute T.B.A. and there was speculation of the Sweedish thing being the first to use it.

I third that, but it doesn't pull off the lines as well as the CTS. So it just ends up looking like a cheap immitation (which it probly will be in the end).

the yamaha motor being worked on was mentioned int the december issue of motor trend, i believe... or automobile. i definately see a future for it in some of our more domestic cars; but its still to early to tell for sure.

honestly, im not a fan of this cars styling (mercury 427 concept~~~ trying not to be a re-styled ford)

as long as the car is reliable and has a good interior, this is a good step for ford. Id much rather have this over an Impala, or Grand AM, and thats what this car is truely targeted at. Not the Accord or the Camry, but the Domestics side of the market. Now all ford needs to do is get some more engins out and this car wil be fine.

the xc90 has a transvers for a front drive setup with awd secondary and not a front engine rear drive with transfercase which would be needed if a Jag moter was to be used, the yamaha moter in the xc90 was at the Paris auto show, according to speed chanel
