Am i getting a bit jaded? [continuation a year later]

Ok, before i get to the pics, i've been wondering something. Last year when i saw the E66 745Li for the first time hauling ass down I-10 East in Phoenix, i thought "holy hell! that car has got to be the beefiest sounding road yacht i've ever seen!". Two days later i saw an E46 M3 tear up the pavement on Scottsdale Rd. about a 1/2 mile from the Penske Automall, and just sat in silent amazement as i watched it become a distant little dot on the other side of my windshield.

Now i don't even look twice when a 745 rolls in for programming. These days it seems to take alot more than a BMW to turn my head (see the 575M shots i took a little while back) Granted, i now know what they mean by the joy of driving and the ultimate driving machine :D :twisted: But have i become jaded by being surrounded by these luxury ass haulers? Am i taking for granted being able to see these things day in and day out while most everyone else on the site has to quickly yank out their cameras everytime one passes by?

I dunno, but i think this s how a junkie feels when a little of their favorite vice won't do it, so a little gets more and more (if it sounds familiar its because its close to GnR's Mr. Brownstone)..anyway, enough of my philisophical BS. Here's the pics:

Techincally the Flywheel is part of the clutch as an assembly :wink:
I take it you mean the car is in for a Flywheel and Pressure plate? or the Whole Clutch assembly minus the Input shaft and throw-out bearing?

And I know what you mean about seeing things everyday and now they don't phase you. Porsches barely phase me unless they are special ones, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Jaguar really don't phase me unless they area a very special version.

BMW uses a Self Adjusting Clutch, which means the pressure plate will adjust itself to go along with the clutch wear so that the pedal feel doesn't change. so unless the surface of the plate is scored and generally abused, you don't have to replace the pressure plate, just the clutch disk. Just set the pressure plate to the NEW mark when you replace the disk, or USED (i think it's either used or worn, not 100% sure since i haven't done one yet) and you're set to go. Same with the flywheel. Unless it's beat to shit, you an reuse it. but as bad as this clutch is slipping, we quoted them everything. And yes, the throwout bearing gets replaced everytime :wink:

So you've never done a Clutch assembly before? or never done that particular style?

not sure about that.....if a 745 rolls by I wouldn't rush to get a pic of it, but if I see one in a carpark I'd probably take a pic. An M3 or M5 are the BMW's that I would be happy to get a pic of, even if I do see a fair few of them (M3's anyway). :wink:

well, over a year, but who's counting :roll: No new pics to post, but i felt it was better to continue an existing thread rather than add a new thread.

Back in jr high/high school i was pretty current on what was coming out, what the iconic cars were and as far as most American Classics went, i had a decent grasp on what packages were offered, how to differentiate between the first Camaros and so forth. I would spend most of math class in 8th grade flipping through the DuPont Registry seeing what was for sale, what the prices of some of the second hand exotics were and so on. I knew what it was goign to set me back to get my hands on a 69 Charger Daytona.

When most of the guys were gawking at the hottest supermodels of the day, i was scheming on how i was going to finance the restoration of a 1964 Impala SS. By Junior year i was focused on building a replica of the General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, and once i was a Sr, i was trying to figure out how long my 240Z was going to be a project car.

Here i am, 5 years later, completely lost on what has become of the Supercar segment of the automotive industry, and i cant remember anymore what half of the specialty Muscle Cars were (ie the 396 powered Chevelles). I mean, for fucks sake, i didn't find out about the Enzo until it appeared in Charlie's Angels 2 :? and i was completely lost on what a CGT was when i got here :roll:

I'm still an enthusiast, and i still have my prefrences, but it just feels like i've slipped alot since making one of my hobbies my career. I couldn't tell you anymore what was going on with any of the companies, outside of BMW, and even then i don't get the opportunity to read the bulletins they post on whats due out in the near future etc, etc.

Maybe im just out of my element here, but it could also be that my goals of obtaining my 12 car garage just seems to slip further way every day.

Sad to say, but individuals do become jaded when they see too much of something. Three nights ago I saw a Gallardo, 360 Spyder and Continental GT while in Newport and it really did not phase me much; why? Because I see them all the time. I'm sure the people in Maranello and Stuttgart feel the same way when they see a F430 or 997 Turbo.

Hey Zfrk, whats the shop time cost for a head set change on the V12 7 series from the late 90's till about 2000 or so?
We had a guy come in and buy a head set and a few other neccessary gaskets, my jaw hit the freakin floor upon hearing the total! Damn near $850. Coupled with labor, it has to be obscene!

replacing both cylinder heads: 36.6 hours

I'm not sure if that's a loaded head or not though

Fear not though, we don't see the M73's fail much. In fact i haven't seen one go yet :D

I'm getting to be the same way I mean today I drove over to a Bentley/RR dealer to get a Corvette (used) aligned and I didn't even really care about the cars that were there (they didn't trust any of the porters with the car) I see Porsche's all day long I see 65 AMG's and I think sweet but I don't go shuffling for my Camera phone all the time. Yes if I see an SLR or CGT etc I will be like Holy Shit! and spin my head around. And seeing NSX's so much those are like wow another NSX :? grantedthe ones with Nitrous and Superchargers are sweet but that's another story. I mean I can take out a 6 speed CL type-s or 6 speed TL and go just slightly slower than an NSX to 100.
