Hi everybody, this is my first post and it seems appropriate to do it in this discussion. Last week my golf cl vr6 was stolen. So I'm looking for a new car. Well not new, a used car. Any ideas ? I have about 11000 CAN$ maybe more. Maybe looking for a 2000 golf 1.8t with the least equipment possible. Please help!

Ok...so you're looking for a small-ish hatchback fwd vehicle sold in Canada...sounds like your choices are, Golf, Civic, Focus, Mazda 3...and...um....that's about it I think. For 11,000 Canadian I guess I'd say go for the Golf 1.8T, but be careful about the turbo, they have been known to go bad and they are a rather expensive thing to replace. As for the other two, the Focus is a pretty decent car, though the interior build quality isn't up to VW standards...it is a more involving car to drive though, as is the Mazda 3, but the 3 is probably out of your price range seeing as it's pretty much a brand-spanking new car. The Civic is pretty reliable, reasonably fuel efficient, and a reasonably good drive, not so good as the Focus, but not quite as uninvolving as the Golf. I'm guessing from the fact that you're looking for a new VW to replace your old one because you like VW's though, so I guess my recommendation would be to go for the VW, as it'll probably make you feel the best.

I love the Golf cars, especially the GTi with the 1.8 naturally aspirated engine. I don't know about the newer models but if todays cars are as rugged as my friends '88 GTi (Rock solid to this day) and his current '97 GTi, you will have a car that will last a very long time and over time you can upgrade the handling and boost the engine performance a little.

Thanx for the replies. Think I'm pretty much stuck with volkswagen hence they're the only ones I know how to take apart and we dont get the focus rs. Maybe thinking now of keeping part of my money and building an old school a2 gti from the ground up.

For that kind of money in canada you have alot of options in the used car market.
Just a few to mention, Second generation DSM's (eclipse, talons, lazers) are all great performance cars, as well as an older Bmw M3, or 3 series. 300zx's can also be alot of fun.
Well just take a solid look around the used market and let me know what your looking for.
