The M5 wins this comparison not only due to the fact that he's the clearly sportier car, but also because he has a much better chassis and costs 10 000 € less. The daily use capability is great in both cars.

• The AMG-Torque Converter dissapoints while cruising at lower speeds...

• M5 more comfortable in daily use - higher door frames, CLS too small, driver can't see the front of the car, passangers in the back can't see anything...

• CLS has 18" Wheels as standard... (Less accellerating Performance with 19")

• M5 V10 Engine reacts awfully fast ...

• When you drive in the corner, M5 has much more grip ...

As we can see, Autozeitung prefered sportiness over luxury. Last time they met, M5 lost (AMS), because they prefered luxury over sportiness.
So, if you want sport choose M5 and if not CLS55 is the car for you.
Both cars are great but I know what I choose.....

One thing that surprised me is that they thought M5 is more comfortable, not what we heard before. But of course its personal, some prefer the comfort in Mercedes, others in BMW. My own experience is that M5 E39 is comfortable, maybe not like an E55 AMG but the comfort works fine in M5 as well for me.

I just don't get why you would want a lot of comfort in a fast saloon. If you want comfort buy another slower car, but the M5 is is very well mixed especially with the seats that give extra bracing when accellerating. M5 deserves the win hands down.
