Wow. That's disgusting. I like the thought that anyone confident enough could walk up to it, open the hood from outside the cockpit (with that fucking thing what else could it be?), and then take out the alternator with enough time (and tools).
I could care less about ruggedness, there's not a chance in hell my car would have hood release latches on the outside.
