Program to split videos?

I want to take a few top gear clips and cut specific scenes. So I can use them as part of a presentation. I tried VirtualDub, but couldn't find guide to help me well. Specific clips I'm planning on using, Top Gear's review of Mclaren F1 when talking about carbon fiber. And the 14 million pound yaht that Richard Hammond was on prior to driving the Zonda. Any other useful clips about carbon fiber is appreciated.

virtual dub is the easiest IMO you just select direct stream copy of both audio and video and then skip to the start part of the video you want using the timeline at the bottom and press edit and then "select section start" then skip to the end of the clip you want and press edit again and this time "select section end" then click file save as avi and your sorted. i've used this numerous times myself with good results. Any questions just ask :wink:

Try nerovision 3 , very good to make videos on dvd , lets you edit too

Thanks for the tip, do you know of a program that will let you edit an ASF file format? The Top Gear Review of Mclaren F1 video is ASF. I'll check videohelp.com to see if I can convert it, any tips or suggestions much appreciated.

You have to download something called 'ASFconverter'. Or you can try Video Workshop. It supports many formats but costs dough :(

for asf i use asftools, very simple and small program.

I tried ASFTools, didn't work with the video. I used TMPGEnc-2.521.58.169 to convert it to an AVI file, then split it using VirtualDub. I converted them so I can play them in Powerpoint, but now are over 300Mb for a 1 min video. I have to make them smaller again, what video format do you suggest? Preferably for it to work in Powerpoint.
