here's some more info on the car and more spy pics.
In my opinion, I don't think this will rival the 911, I personally don't think it's as "focused" as the 911.

The Maserati 4200 which is the current "small" Maserati is in the same category with the 911. So... why build an even smaller one?...

i would take a Mustang Cobra or even the brand new mustang and eat them alive. And if you all say that wont work give me the Ford GT

It's not smaller than the current 4200 GT. In fact, it's bigger. It will have an even bigger V8 and will be made on a shorter version of the Quattrporte platform.
Everyone immediately thinks the 911 is invincible, but I'm going to wait and see. Evo was very positive about the GranSport and we all know that Maserati has the talent and skill to come up with a fantastic car. One thing's for sure beforehand IMO and that is that the Maserati will definately sound a LOT better than the Porker and can be expected to look a lot better as well.

Yeah, it does kind of look like a Z3 coupe, tho I also think it looks like Rinspeed's Bedouin Concept (a highly modified porsche w/ radical body lines.) Seems like Maserati has been on quite a steamroll lately...new quatroportte, modified (and improved) base models, the stellar MC12 and the subsequent participation in GT racing..... and now this...

I think we can't talk about "real" rivals....the 911 is a very unique car.... 8)
No car can cause any harm to its success....

The picture is strange: it looks very small compared to the 911, that is not a big car! Will it be a rival for the Smart roadster???

Ferrari revieved Maseratti atleast over here in america hoping the Ferrari name would some how help it. The only Maser i have liked is the new MC12.

no. If it wanted to do that, it would have "Owned by Ferrari" "With Ferrari V8s" on their ads. Maserati makes itself clear that it will never be a Ferrari, and Ferrari will never be a Maserati. The president of both companies, Montezemolo said it himself. Mind you, it was the American focus group that got rid of the "boomerang" lights. And Ferrari didn't really "revive" Maserati just in America. I'd rather have the Gransport than the MC12.
And
Id never buy a wanna be Ferrari.
What's wrong with a Maserati? More leather than a Ferrari, more rarity than a Ferrari, more space than a Ferrari, more practicality than a Ferrari...
And 911 screams Yuppie.

When your buying your sports car and your looking at those type of cars, i dont know about you but i dont look at interior i look at performance. Also id take a 911 turbo, or 911 GT3, or Carrera over a Maser. Just my opinion.

I'd do that too. But Gransport has a Ferrari V8 and the pace to match the 911s and the beautiful interior is just another + point. I'm all for 911 price bracket Maserati.

hahah you cant see anything it could be a goat under all that camo
The 911 is a unique car... it can't be compared to any other car. I'm not talking if it's better or not than the Maser... but it's different. However, I thought that the current Coupe was the "rival" of the 911... or at least is what I've been reading in all the mags lately.
Thats what i think. The 911 has survived what? 40 years unriveled? It has beaten every single competition that has been thrown at it. It has evolved yet stayed true to its roots. How many other cars can say that? Only maybe the Corvette, and the mustang, can really say they have stayed true.
