That engine is ginormous! I think that's a little too much overkill with that one...

engine is hugh and for having such a big engine you think it would have better performance. but it is a heavy car.

Thats pretty good power for the time that it was out. Is it NA? Whats the mpg for it too(i doubt anyone knows this) but just curious?

must be as it's 'only' 391.5kw from that massive engine
would i be right in thinking Mercedes is still using this EXACT same engine (with a few more modifications) to supply for the Zonda?

Well then you must be saying that the Zonda engine is producing nothing for it's size since it only produces 30hp more, and i can agree with that.

What you guys should look at is the tire tearing 750NM of torque. This will give it great acceleration.

7.2L - wow, but why does it weigh so much!!
im guessing the engine is half the weight of the car!

It was once in the NSF....don't know which one....
Wish MB would make such engines again....
Some rumors say that they will....with a "natural" 6.3L AMG engine.... 8)

i dont think its all due to the engine (although it doesnt help) that gives it such a high weight. its the same engine that is in the zonda and the zonda is very light.
i think its just that MB just spreads random amounts of molten lead and iron throughout the chassis, it wouldnt be a true merc if it didnt weigh 4000+ lbs. hehe
badass car though thanks for the pics.

back in the 90s.......Mercedes are building VAULT like cars. Ever since the introduction of the US made ML, build quality ran downhill like a fat bitch on skates

One of my absolute favourite cars  But it doesn´t by far reach the new SL55 AMG for me though it has a much bigger engine but only 25hp more... The looks of the new one is simply godlike 8)

well, hmmmmmm is Carbon fiber the new buzz option? Everyone is putting it on and saying look we have light weight stuff on our car. A engine cover doesn't weight enough to matter. Still a good looking car.

The engine looks quite good. But the car is too heavier. Well, with a 6 cilynder engine turbo but 1200kg or less, u can go even faster spending so much less fuel and making corners faster.

I'm not that impressed honestly...
Lambo, BMW, and even Honda can manage 100+ bhp per litre. Mercedes still can't. but I do prefer the build quality of this era of Merc to the new ones.

You are mistaken my friend if you think mercedes can't manage 100+ bhp per litre, the thing is Mercedes has different approach to their engine building and they can produce the output they want with the reliabillity they want. Porsche is doing the same thing with different approach to their engine and they also can't manage 100+ bhp per litre,so what!!
