Wow that looks fantastic! So what was it like to drive around the Nurburgring then?? Any videos?

RS Patrik
11-29-2004, 10:04 AM
Right car, right track, wrong driver!

Seriously, fantastic, but as the track is very demanding, I have no wish to end in the Armco, there "fairly" modest speed.
No video, as you are only allowed to film during the Scuderia Course

Ok I did some editing to the pics and here is Patrick's custom shot!

Too bad the car is stored for the winter (I guess the whole winter). We would have liked some nice pics of your car in a nice location, but well, you don't live in Florida and I guess the RS is not the right car for cold and snowy winters :D Maybe later ;) right?

I have got a few more taken of me at the Ring, sent to TT already, perhaps he can resize and post them for me...
I almost only use this car for track driving, which tend to do atleast a couple of times each month with Porsche Club in Sweden, where we drove in August at Anderstorp Race Track, we were actually 3 identical RS's there and then.

Never been to Norway, but the Club goes 1 time per year to Rudskogen.

ah....thats better, nice pics. :D I must congratulate you on a great car, looks sensational....my favourite of the 996 Porsches. :D
If this is mainly a track car, what do you use as a daily driver?

RS Patrik

Err... I admit I used the pics for the signature and not kept them :(
if you want you can send them again!

OK, will do. I'll send some others if I can find them. Canyou pls use the nice license plate blocker instead of me spraying...

Thanks,

My daily driver is my trusty Jeep Cherokee-96, which I love to bits. Consider to change into a X5 4.4 though.
Need a car that can tow the RS.

WOW! What a car to have as a track car! Damn i just love that car. Excellent choice mate.
Oh, i can recomend the X5 4.4, me and my dad tested one a few years back, fook me does it move! Pretty rapid for a car of its size, handles and stops really well too. I dont think it would have any trouble at all in towing the nice light weight porker! :D

Welcome on JW RS Patrik !

To have a Porsche 996 GT3 RS and to be able to drive it on the famous circuit of Nordschleife it's really the best dream of many people, like me. You are really lucky. That's cool for you ! I hope to see you taken part in the Porsche Central to share with us your experiment.

Cheers ! :D

The myth over Ferrari is bigger than Porsche, but in terms of quality. We all know Germans are unbeatable. Besides, cambelt change that you have to do every 24 month on a Ferrari is a joke. A friend of mine is about to do on his Testarossa, $5000 will that cost.

..Though how much a fan belt will cost is not usually the deciding factor when buying an exotic, is it?

A little too spartan, even for me - the last 911 Club Sport I was intimate with was in 1994 - and that edition only had a drivers seat... and I do all my driving with a co-pilot. ;)

GT2 Clubsport is the roughly the same as a GT3 Clubsport or a GT3 RS, if we talk about the interiour.

oh, is your Jeep a Cherokee, or Grand Cherokee?... id imagine the Grand Cherokee if you are towing the porsche. mine is in my sig.

Nope, it is the Cherokee 4.0 High Output. Works perfect as a tow rig.

Damn nice car and Welcome :P .

it must have been amazing to go around the Nurburgring!

2 questions:

Do you have your best lap time? maybe you can share it with JW :D .

how long did it take you to get a feel around the ring?

Best lap time, I have never clocked myself. Find no particular use if you have driven less than 100 laps, then it may start to make sense.

Jackie Stewart once said: "if you think the Nordschleife is easy, you drive to slow."

Got the feel, hmm, I have done between 90-100 laps, not really sure ( did 50 laps in September, and roughly 40 in April), but after 40 laps you start to remember the 147 corners ( yes it is that many, th course is 21 km long...) But this doesn't mean you know the perfect line, that will take more than that.

Lovely car Patrik ...

Does GT3-RS come standard with PCCB? And how are your brakes holding off after your 90 laps of the Ring

RS Patrik
12-03-2004, 04:18 AM
The GT3 RS does not come with PCCB as standard, I think they are 91 000 SEK= roughly € 12 000.
This is silly money in my book, and no I do have them. The 2004 Cup car does not either, so why should I then.
People who complain about the Porsche breaks are using them wrong!

This car has not done 90 laps, "only" 50. I did 40 with my RS-92 which now has been sold. However I have done almost all track days possible with the Porsche Club Sweden, and they are more wearing on the breaks than the Ring, I have probably only used a third of the breaks!!

Nice car patrick. I ran my esprit v8 against an identical car at pistonheads vmax recently - very similar performance, maybe the 911 just had the edge in a straight line but it was very close.

Did you try a 'regular' GT3? Is the RS worth the premium?

My brother has a Mk1 GT3 which I have driven, can't say that I "feel" a huge difference, but throttle response and turn in are better. This is valid in a Mk II version as well.

I didn't look at the price comparion when doing the purchase as wasn't interested in a normal GT3. I had a 964 RS, and in that car, you have so much fun for that kind money it is unbeatable.
Not to say that I am not enjoying the GT3RS, but it is not 3 tiimes more fun...
It is just the car of my dreams... :D

Patrik, you must have already done some long drives on the car (e.g. to get to the Ring and back from Sweden) ... how is the car on regular roads, highways and bumps and all that.

Some magazines were saying that the GT3-RS was a very hard riding car for the road. I want to get an opinion from an owner :)

Boys,
not a problem.

When breaking in the car, I drove it on long trips (instead of trailering). First trip was to Kinnekulle Ring (Racetrack) it was 450km's (one-way). 2nd long trips was to Gelleråsen (Racetrack), 600km's (one-way)

Both long and frustrating trips, trying to keep the right foot steady and not pushing is hard in this car, but as I wanted to do the breaking in properly, 2000km's instead of the 1000km as the manual said, this is the way to do it. Keeps the engine really warm for many hours and and varius rpm's as well.

Now back to the question, you can obviously not compare the seats to for example with the new comfort seat BMW 5 series have, they are to die for, but this is not intended to be a comfortable car. The seats in my old RS-92 was harder, so for me these are comfortable :D
I am sure a lot of people would be better off in a 996 Turbo or such, that has comfortable seats but still sporty, but for me not an option because I like it like this, it is a part of the package. What would be nice though, is a cruise control, after a couple of hours the right leg tends to cramp...

But for normal highway driving it is fine no problems at all, more problems to keep with in the speedlimits!

PS. TT trying to find the manual for my videocamera to download some vids...

Thanks for the writeup :D

And would be perfect if you could find some vids :D The RS could end up beeing Miss February :D

For a moment I thought you wanted to take a custom shot for the videocamera too :D

The 997 GT3 will be around during the summer months, but a new RS soon, I wouldn't hold my breath on that, as the last RS (993) was produced in 1995.

Here are the RS versions available:

911 RS-73
911 RS-74
911 SC RS-83 (only 20 made, I haven't even seen a pic...)
911 RS-92
911 RS-95
911 GT3 RS-04

I thought you couldn't get a 996 GT3RS in the US ?

And for what I've read so far, no 997 GT3 in the US either

Sure hope they don't do one since we have normal 997 GT3 on order :D like you said they will be releasing it around juli/august. We should get ours october/november, first one in Belgium :P

Thanks for the links.
The Rothmans car I have seen before but not a street version, not really sure if the white one is such, could be a race car without the sponsor logos. Also I am not sure if any of the 20 cars were made as a street car.

Awesome car. Congrats on being able to own such a car. Its good to see its not a car that just sits in your garage for you to look at. A guy i know gave me a ride in his 2004 GT3 clubsport at infineon raceway in sonoma, CA and it was awesome. i was speechless after we got off the track. I can only imagine what it would be like to drive the RS.
