I think it's not a real good impression. I don't see the BMW adopting a AM grill to the mini.

The facelift is planned for 2006, but won't have such big changes.

I'm not an expert with photoshop, but it surely looks like a medium-regular job with PS

Interestin image whether real or PS.... but on the topic of a new new Mini - why can't they just leave well enouh alone and not change the "new Mini" design for at least 10 years... THAT is how the original car built up it's cult status... by retaining it's boyish good looks for a long time (this goes for the old Beetle as well).

So far VW have managed to leave the "new Beetle" alone for a while...

These companies need to realize, in order to cash in on a nostalgic look, you need to leave it the fuck alone. ;)

I totally agree with you. If they make some styling changes to quickly the car will loose it cult status, and sales will drop eventually

The original mini never was the same throughout its life... not in the slightest.....

I do agree with you sorta though, they should wait at least double the length its been out already before they bring in a new facelift

Yes the mini constantly evolved but the point is that the so called "New Mini" is a complete carbon copy of the originals styling... the mini is a true motoring icon... no arguements please  and BMW are selling the car on that whole nostalgia and heritage so they shouldn't keep pissing about with it and polluting Issigonis's pure lines (which the new one still kind of follows)

hmmm i disagree, its far from a carbon copy, it just have enough features and proportions similar to the old one that people recognise it as the "new mini".

Eg the whole body is slightly more curvy and bubbly but its the basic same shape - same with the grill and headlights and to a degree some of the interior.

And as most cars, including the old mini evolved over time, i dont see why just because its a continuation from the old mini, it cant evolve itself....

BMW have already released a refreshed mini tht has been on sale from july and they're all very subtle changes.

BMW has yet to release a "proper" facelift so i dont think we should really be commenting just yet ;)

LOL cos its more curvy its different  really it is a complete copy and IMO probably the ONLY reason BMW bought Rover. The whole BMW marketing has been based around the old cars heritage, so they should at least do it the service of not ruining the shape..... i hope the facelift turns out to be like neither of these two. The earlier facelift didn't really do much to my knowledge.... Slight changes to lighting configuration minimal changes to front and rear bumper, interior changes, and a new gearbox/ ratios for the one and cooper.... I'm one of the mini owners that likes the "New Mini" and would buy one given the money you can't do much better but if BMW starts pissing about with it too much my feelings will change.

Actually - the original Mini WAS the same all through it's life.

The cahnges werer quite few and far between, and were incremental.

There was really only one major body style change, and the interior took years to evolve.

Between vairous members of our family, we had 1960's editions and 1970's edtions, and the chages were subtle and progressive.. that was the attraction... ;)

Well there was 7 marks each with their own variations then theres the clubman, saloon, cabriolet, van, pickup, elf, hornet, estate, moke and probably a few more that ive forgotten.

My point is some subtle changes to the new mini's hardly gonna harm it. If you hate the new mini your not gonna care, for the majority, if you like the new mini, your probably gonna like the facelift, when/if it arrives.

Either way the new mini has sold like hot cakes and will probably continue tht way for many more years....

Well - my point is unless you are a Mini-nut-job, the subtle differences between versions of the original Mini would pass you by... ;)

How ever, a major facelift/revamp of the "new Mini" would render it no longer the "new Mini" but rather another pointlessly small car with no character.. ;)

Exactly like all copies it has no character of its own... this has been the same for most japenese cars over the years IMO and i agree if they change it signifcantly like the photoshops we have seen so far then it will use the biggest thing it has going for it that cheeky mini style.... it will still be a fun car but it will start to blend in with all those boring Jap/ euro boxes IMO

Not really - sales have slowed a bit. Even in the US it is over priced... it just so happenes that they make few enough to sell em all.. ;)
