oh god...now they've gone and done it again. Hartge seems to enjoy putting that particular 5.0-liter M-V8 into every BMW they get their hands on. They have put it on the 3,5,6,7,X5,Z3, and Z4 as far as i know...and knowing them they'll find some way (and reason) to put it in the X3.
seems like an awesome idea putting it into the 1-series, cuz it's not really a fast car to begin with...i'd like to see some vids of that tiny little beast

Agreed on handling of POO, the weight distrbution is going to suck. But a little hatch with any sort of V8 in it will always be cool, and hopefully very very fast.

Maybe that's because there is no replacement for... displacement.. ;)

I think they stuffed a V12 into a E36ti before, thus I am sure it's not hard for them to fit the V8 into the 1-series. Handling wise, Hartge usually push the firewall backwards to create a more equal weight distribution. So I am not too worry about the handling. I mean, there will be compromises, but will not be POO like handling for sure =)

it's gonna handle like POO! Sticking a V8 in the front of a tiny car like that is bound to make it a bit of a dog....in a straight line, however....it's gonna fly
It still won't be as poo as an Audi's handling...:P :P :P ;)

Handling wise, Hartge usually push the firewall backwards to create a more equal weight distribution.
I guess they have to push that firewall quite a bit backwards. Both to have room for then engine at all, and to balance the weight distribution. I think the weight difference between a 1.6L straight 4 and a 5.0L V8 is huge!

Well - it's not like the 1 series was a real car to begin with... :P

well It takes more effort to stuff a large V8 in place of a 4 cylinder than it would be to slap on a turbo.
