It seems ferrari's executives of today don't follow his footsteps as the Enzo is focused more on aerodynamics as they themselves said. :)

Funny - if there IS a replacement for displacement, how come ALL the manufacturers with decent speed/performance cars are making the engines BIGER every year?

The M5's V10 is 2Liters less than the Vipers, but still makes the same hp (could it be a replacement for displacement? Absolutely). I'd rather have a high-revving, forced induction 2.0L than a heavy,gas guzzling, 8.0L.

In order for the M5 to stay competitive - it got a bigger engine... in order for the 430 to remain competitive it ot a bigger engine, in order for the AMG's to remain competitive they all got bigger engines...

LOL - :lol: - only because you have never been in ahigh hp V8 powered sports car.. :)

BTW - these "heavy" V8 enines's you refer too are most often LIGHTER than their equivalent lower displacement uber-high tech counter parts... :)

lol bmw could of just put a blower on the engine of the old m5, but they built the new engine, because they want hp from all the revs the engine puts out..

but that said.
a 2.5L turbo ain't as good as a 3.5L turbo with the same setup.

The 3.0L engine you speak only has about 245lbs/tq though. And only last about 400 miles at most. "theres no replacement for displacement" is true, but i think it's only true in drag racing. Road racing or oval racing, the torque that the displacement brings doesn't really mean much so there's no need for large displacement engines because they're are not moving from a standstill.

if you want to make lets say 300 hp there is no point in using a 5 litre engine hell a 2 litre is more than enough....... :roll:

those engines were turbocharged, and used....f___ng I don't remember which fuel, but wasn't "real" or common fuel

In Europe a lot of the little and midrange cars are now getting little 1.4, 1.5 or 1.6 turbodiesel engines as basemodel engines instead of 1.9 turbodiesels. Of course the topmodels of these cars still use 1.9 turbodiesels.

As an example I’ll take the new Volvo S40/V50 (this one is also on sale in the US). They now have a topdiesel version with a 1.9 engine, but the base diesel engine was downsized to a 1.6. I don’t know if this one will be for sale in the US. But it certainly will be quite a hit over here in Europe, since it doesn’t use a lot a fuel, which is really expensive over here.

3.0 V10 F1 engines aren't turbocharged and use almost exactly the same fuel as normal cars. The 1.5 V6's in the 80's were turbocharged, but turbocharging was banned since 1989.

Being that this is a site where we hopefully get excited by cars that actually perform.. ;) -- one would HOPE you see and love that a car with a 0-60 of 4s and 180mph+ top end is BETTER than any 0-60mph in a week and 120mph top end do shit box.. :P :) hehehe

i had overexaggerated a little. i was referring to the extra RPM that the F1 engines turn on top of typical 6-8,000 redlines of the higher displacement engines :wink:

The other american is here. ITs simple different with displacements. You can have a 3.0 Liter thats makes 500 HP, and you can have a 4.0 Liter, and a 5.0 liter that all make the same. BUT the 5.0 liter will more than likely kick in at a lower RPM and will grunt all the way to its redline. Also the 5.0 will make more torque and get off the line faster. While the 3.0 and the 4.0 will make their power much high up in the powerband. It will feel like a hond awhen it hits its vtec all the power all of a sudden. I personally love displacement, and like my power at the low end all the way through. Also onto turbos, isnt i true that for 12 PSI? i think or some psi of boost equals doubling the displacement of the engine. So once again. There is no replacement for displacement.
