New PC!!!...some help needed...

Ok...so finally I have all the pieces of my PC...I just spent the weekend in the states picking them up...so now I'm back home and I put all the pieces together...fired it up...and now I don't know what to do...

How do I set the BIOS correctly? do I need to clear the CMOS before doing anything?

How come the BIOS doesn't recognize the processor? here's a screenshot...

When it starts it says Memory Frequenze : 200Mhz is this right?

I tried installing my HD with the Serillel2 converter included with the Abit NF7-S...but it doesn't work...how do I make it work?

ok first answer, on my old nf7s (gave it to my bro now) yuo need to make sure you connect both power leads to the h/d, the normal one - 4 pin into the h/d itself, and the floppy connector that goes onto the serillel connector .. then make sure the sata controller is enabled in the bios and it will work :)

probably because you are using desktop mobo and mobile cpu, i guess thats a bios 'bug'

did you go cheap and didn't buy a floppy disk drive?

winxp doesn't have sata drivers, and it won't recognise your hd. when you start winxp it'll ask to load some disk driver (something along those lines) you'll need to do that with a floppy disk. unless you have a copy of winblows with sata drivers.

took me a whole weekend to figure that out when i needed to reformat :roll:

anyways i don't see the difference between sata and ide. i'm going back ide with my next hd.

u sure the NF7-S support XP-M??..I know it supports XP..but not sure about the M

Ok...I figured it out...it seems that the BIOS didn't recognize it...it seems other peoplpe have had this problem with this CPU and Mobo...so I just set the multiplier and clock to their defaults which I believe are 133x13.5=1800...

LOL I did go cheap and didn't buy a new floppy...but anyways I have some old floppy drives lying around so...

I installed the HD with the normal IDE cable...I'll figure the other stuff later...

Thanks for your help...I'll post more info on it as I get used to it...

alright...I won't use it... yeah I have SP2 installed already...

now...some other questions... :roll:

Now...since the processor numbres got all screwed up...is it possible that other stuff like the Memory and AGP config and others got messed up as well?

Temps are:

- Day Ambient Temp: 32~34'C
- Night Ambient Temp: 26~28'C
- CPU Idle Temp: ~39'C
- CPU after 2 hours of playing Joint Operation: Thyphoonn Rising, 1027x768 everything HIGH ~41'C

Any comments on these settings and temps????

Oh also ... how can I see if my GeForce has the 12 standrad piplines enabled? I read the first shipment had only 8, and you had to d/l an update. What;s a good ute to o/c this card?

well.. your really loosing performance running such a low fsb..

my advice, drop the cpu multiplier to 9x and up that fsb to 200mhz to keep the same cpu speed you have now but with much better performance !

EDIT:...I wasn't able to do it...it went all beep beep crazy on me continious beeping...so I had to cut the power...

I powered up again, and it said that the CPU was unworkable, please change the softmenu...so it's back as it was...

What happened??

EDIT2: I upped the clock to 166 leaving the mult at 13.5 and it stalled loading WinXP...does the core voltage has anything to do with this?

Yes more voltage gives better stability

Why 9x200 when you can squeeze 2700mhz from those 35w cpus :wink:

leave the S-ATA converter for what it is. It wount make your drive any faster! And those converters are just junk!

If you have a SP2 install cd of windows xp, you don't need any floppy disks. They have the needed drivers.

Using the SATA controller will leave CPU usage as ive heard , is that not correct ?

Or at least if its the same performance ... SATA cables rock !!!

Update the bios of the system, I think you're running an outdated biosversion.

Yah i suggested a bios by merlin , they are the top when talking of overclocking
