I will say one thing, this STEAM system is complete ass. The servers are so busy, they can't verify my Key yet. I noticed in the news section that many are having this issue with STEAM, among other things. So I have to be patient and wait. I am also not too happy with the fact that the only multiplayer aspect of the game is CS. Was hoping to play the actually game code in a multiplayer environment. I also hate the fact that if I want to have my own copy of the game I have to order one and wait close to 2 months to recieve it. By the way, I am using the key card that came with a Graphic card I bought a while ago which uses the STEAM or send off methods.

if you mean the fact that you have to connect to their servers inorder to make the game playable then yes, as for online play i dont know.

well i went out and bought it today and have installed it..... only problem is steam wont even connect and let me create a steam accoung :(

I've configured my firewall to allow steam and hl but i'm on a university network so i fear their routers are the problem :( Any idea of how i can check out if this is the case or if its something to do with my pc?

Once/if I have registered do i need to connect to steam everytime i want to play offline :S hows it work?

hmmm maybe but i think its more likely to be my uni firewalls/routers

I've heard http tunneling or something can let me around the network routers/firewalls?? Anyone know much about this?

Big bear/Dan? ;)

EDIT: hmmm seemed to have found the answer

post about half way down using sockscap and ssh tunnel, found a few other sites saying this method works too.

Like this one on halfelife.net:

There is a workaround, i posted on the steam forums months ago which uses HTTP Tunnel and SocksCAP to enable activating via port 80. Since thats not blocked at universities, it will allow those able to access it. I can't get onto the steam forums at the moment to actually link to it but its relatively simple.

Download HTTP-Tunnel from www.http-tunnel.com install that and connect. Download Socks-CAP from http://www.socks.permeo.com/Downloa...nload/index.asp and then configure sockscap to use 127.0.0.1:1080 as your proxy server. You then add Steam in as a program and launch Steam from within Sockscap. This tunnels all the traffic through port 80 (open by HTTP-Tunnel)

Simple. Get connected that way. It was tested ages ago on the Steam forums and people were connecting to Steam and downloading updates as well with it. Once they decide to take the forums back to life, i'll properly link to it.

Only problem is, i dont know how to set up a tunnel in the first place. Apart from the ports, what do i put for username, SSH host and password?

Help needed quickly, im dying to play this :P
