Sadly I and I am sure I can speak for Dan and the Bear will be posting some much better marks shortly (just ordered some kick ass memory thanks to Dan)...so you better hope that exchange rate improves soon the chilean charmer...as you're going to be needing a few more upgrades I think.

That is a pretty good advantage of the P4 , the memory management , while in an Nforce2 based Mobo a dual channel will give 5 to 7% of boost , in a p4 it can go from 70 to 100% boost , that is astonishing
DMbaseball1604
11-17-2004, 02:22 AM
Can you explain what exactly you are saying? - do you mean that the P4 is making full use of the memory basically?

And it works nicely in P4 and A64 , for some reason is very fucked up in the Nforce2 platform , gives you a 7% boost .

I guess that's correct. I have some issues with my computer (It's is supposed to be 2.2 Ghz, and when I open System in the control panel, I only get 1.8 Ghz even when I'm on the ac.

In the pictures we see the temp probe in some water showing 21 degrees (bottom display) then in the antifreeze quickly going to zero then ----.
Please disregard the cpu temp as that is still being cooled by normal water at this time.

Well as you have seen I have made steady progress all week long right down to 3.08 and just one second behind thamar....USING NO additional HARDWARE...try doing that with an air-cooled system.
Also with the power of my freezer only (that I already had) I should get down below zero tonight...again best of luck trying to do that with air.

I also don't want to start dealing with to much condensation...there is already a shit load around my water block.

Now I just got to work out...how to get it in my insulated box.

The whole fridge idea sadly just doesnt work...all explained in these forums...also will give you an idea what we must do.
But basicly your water needs to go over the cold part....the air in a fridge would loose the battle of trying to keep your water temp down I think.

http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=25855&page=1
Water chilling: Now we are getting out of the basics, and more into the advanced usage of a watercooling system. Chilling is to make your water cooler than its surroundings. This is usually done with a phase change unit, such as a fridge, air conditioner, or dehumidifyer. DO NOT USE A MINIFRIDGE! THIS IS ALWAYS THE FIRST QUESTION EVERYONE ASKS! It will not hold up to the load. An air conditioner over 5000 BTU will usually cut it, and keep your water nice and cool. A 40 pint dehumidifier should also work.To get this to chill your water, you should gut it, and put the cooling coils from the unit in your reservoir, or, build a new reservoir. This will probably require you to build an out-of-case place for your stuff. Now: That's the easy part. Now, you need to condensation proof your motherboard. You need hose insulators, and something to insulate your waterblock. While chilling, the water may come to a lower temperature than 0 degrees Celcius. For those of you who don't know, that is frozen water. So, we need to add something with a lower freezing point, such as our good friend alcohol, or antifreeze. However, antifreeze has TERRIBLE cooling capacities, so alcohol/water or just plain windshield wiper fluid is what you should probably go for.

Excellent thats the way to go.....but building a box will be more of a pain...but maybe the only solution....I will get all the measurements tomorrow for you.....thanks for all the ideas so far...

Tonights update...I am quite pleased with the way things have gone tonight...I managed -17 without the fan sucking warm air through the evaporator.
My guess is it will be a lower temp when the water is in there as that will insulate it from the air completely.
I put some brown tape on the inside of the box to try and keep the silicone in place while it sets....I will put more silicone on the inside tomorrow and a shit load of gafers tape on the outside to try and help with the pressure of the water.
Looking forward to ya comments.

if you fill the area between the inner and the outer parts of the box with foam or simular insulating material it would work great IMO.......
I also see you have been working hard getting all bloody and shit, sharp those edges......... .....you can truly say you made it with blood sweat and tears........maybe not the tears but it need to be in the sentence........
Yep some good ideas there for project two indeed.
The box does have quite a bit of insulation in the walls already...it is designed to keep food cold for several hours and seems to use polyestaring (not sure if that is a UK name) and foam. It also has a snap air tight lid and wasn't cheap IMO at £19.99 so I hope its gonna be good.
I am not sure about the amount of water that would be the most effective....as a smaller amount of water would be turned over quicker over the hot CPU so therefore there is less time for it to be cooled before being sent back there again. A larger amount of water might be able to be kept cooler as it isn't circulated as much.
My recent tests of 1 Litre and 5 Litre reservoirs with normal water cooling didn't seem to make any difference...so maybe it doesn't really matter how much you use in the end.
I am trying to aim for zero temps or a little over...as below zero takes us into condensation issues that destroyed my last CPU...despite being well insulated.
Hopefully 28 degrees in and - 20 going out might kinda work...no idea if that would mean that I would end up with 8 degrees and if so that would be almost perfect.
Well I guess we will soon find out one way or another.
Jabba
11-25-2004, 08:01 AM
Well it was the people that built my computer the first time that fucked up the insulation that killed the CPU...

I am quite pleased with the way everything went last night. There were a couple of tiny leaks that I needed to plug with some ceramic compound...interesting that it stopped leaking when the water temp started to drop (I think the anti freeze thickens when its cold so it couldn't escape so easily)
With the lid on and after about 10 mins I saw -5 no idea how long it will take to get to lower temps if it will at all.
Good to see left over night the leaks are now fixed and everything is bone dry...also that the temp only went up by a few degrees left overnight with the system off...looks like the box is doing a pretty good job keeping the cold in.

Do you want liquid nitrogen Jabba?
I`ll give you a tip on how to get it.....farmers use this to keep the sperm of sheeps (and other animals I guess) frozen......so if you have look in the yellow pages or something, maybe talking to a vet they should know how to get a hold of it, Im sure you can get it without the sperm......LOL......
I don't know if in England you must have a special permission by the goverment, or whatever, but here you can go to an autorized seller and buy some liquid nitrogen, of course they rent you the tank

Just rang the poison help line...totally useless as I predicted....she was pulling all the information off a computer and couldn't pronounce half the names...."Alcohol-whatever the name" that just cracked me up.
I knew that alcohol was an antidote if taken within a few hours....but no good at this late stage I think. I also pointed out that it probably wouldn't help to arrive at the hospital pissed as a rat. All she kept on asking about was what the antifreeze was for....I just said its for a pumping system and lets leave it at that.
Total waste of time all in all.
You get much better medical advice on JW IMO.
Fucking hell where do they get them from!!!! ... if your on the other end of the phone trying to help people you should at least know about the subject... hardly inspires confindence LOL, i suppose if you don't feel better soon its best just to try the doctor/ local casualty. PMSL at the thought of Jabba screeching up at the hospital half pissed....... espeically in the Lambo/ 355 :P  Gotta laugh really i'm sure most of the people working in these call centres go to special classes to have the intellegence and common sense hammered out of them
Also arriving with the water chiller to show them....I bet they would be like WTF ??? and probably not allow it into the building LOL.
LOL I would think they would report you for being some kind of mad scientist/ terrorist :P But its probably worth the trip anyway just to see if they can do anything......
****EDIT***** Looks Like Belgium have proper health services  from what the bear said below i think your o.k. dude!! half a glass is a hell of alot to ingest as you spat most of it out!

I am pleased to say that I am still alive and well...Obviously didn't have enough antifreeze to kill me but enough to give me a stinking headache similar to a damn hang over or something.

^ I've looked at Ultramon before, but as far as I could find, it wasn't freeware. Is there a freeware version anyone knows of?

^Jeez thamar, that's mad fast.
What did you do to boost your speed? (ie - what new toys did you get, and then after that, what did you do to tweak the system to keep shaving off seconds).
And btw, ultramon is freeware on the site. I dled it and it's working like a charm. I highly recommend this software for anyone w/ multiple monitors.
EDIT: ultramon is not free. it's just available for free trial download, but they don't even prompt you that they'll ask u to pay later.

Replaced the DFI with a MSI mainboard, and the 3200+ s754 with a 3500+ s939 winchester (0.09µ instead of 0.13µ).
Then got some other memory, Gskill DDR550.
Upped the voltage a little bit of the cpu & memory and started testing ;)
A little more HTT here, a little less multiplier there, chanced timings on the memory there a bit and so on and so on. Takes quite some time to do all these things.
Congratulations on 1st place (for now  ) you bastard !!!

After being in 22nd place for almost 10 months, my new AMD Athlon 64 kicks ass, well Jabba's at least :P
Now, if an expert would be kind enough to proffer advice, was the overclock there a bit too high? Max. CPU temp reached was 55 deg C. Is that too high? My old P4 1.7GHz used to reach 59 on CPU intensive tasks.
Oh, and if Thamar could edit the first post to put me 3rd, i'd be grateful

I will edit the post but sadly you just got your arse kicked right back..and not just by 1 second either :P
And thats with a slower processor and a shit load of stuff running in the background on very basic water (no fans) moving on to the phase change cooling tonight so I can have a crack at the bears new record.

Indeed At last some good news :D, Just don't go drinking antifreeze again :P
LOL... i'm gonna try and OC it a bit more, but my memory is pretty cheap Corsair Value 1GB, and that was with my old fan... no expensive water cooling here :(
Congrats anyways :D

None of that this time...I am back on direct phase change cooling but I will have to give up on the 24/7 operation I think...

Shame... still getting condensation??
My PCs on 24/7 now, but i'm just using fans at the moment, and don't have enough money to invest in something more expensive

The water cooling I used for that score cost less than £50...will get a picture later...one eheim pump, water block and a plastic bucket full of water and some tubing.
Hmmm... starting to sound a bit more attainable :D
Post the pic whenever, and i'll go off and check some cooling systems out

The new clamshell I got is supposed to be so condensation proof that you dont even need to use di-electric grease. Seeing as I seem to have a good chip though...I dont want to really put that to the test by leaving it running 24/7...prob would also help that this time I would leave it running under load.

I managed to shave another couple of seconds off my time and that is gonna be my final effort...I can get to over 4.1 ghz but at the risk of frying my cpu...so I am gonna quit this time while things are still going quite well. I am just happy to have my 4 ghz pc back.
