Ok i got the game today and it put it in and it didnt load, so i thought my ps2 was broken but then i put in a different game and it worked. So what im asking is do you think the game is defective or do you need the slim ps2? Im sooo fucking frustrated right now :x :x :x
I hope not... would hate to have to get a new console just to play newer software...
Well I will get my US copy Friday but today I picked up a PAL one for a friend and plays fine on regular PS2... when did you clean the PS2's head last time? Sometimes for some games is required a cleaning while others still play.

well my ps2 first went wrong with vice city.. cos its always loading from the disk i think... you certainly don't need the new one to play it but it sounds like your laser might be broke too :(
I'm sure that you don't need the nes PStwo to run GTA SA.
On a side note.. i haven't pre-ordered my copy, but am going to go and pick it up about 10mins after opening time in GAME... i can't wait

I wish my only problem was a defective game. I've got a "defective" PS2 and no money to go buy a new one.

Before taking it back, use a clean disk on the PS2!

I did use another disk and it worked fine os it has to be the game, i also used a blow dryer to blow out any dust that was inside of it.
I posted it already: some disks when the lense is not clean still works, others dont.. tme ago I took back a game 3 times and got 2 new ones because it was the only one not working.. I finally bought a cleaning disk and it solved the problem... give it a try, it costs basically nothing...
BTW; to use a blow dryer is a big mistake

Nope not necessarily my other games continued to work for some time when my PS2 broke it was only vice city that refused to to work

Well All I can say is I've got the New PS2 and GTA:SA and I'm lovin it, the map is soo frickin huge!!
Just crack the PS2 open (don't actually crack it... unscrew it carefully) and try to get at the laser. (i have never opened a PS2 before, so i wouldn't know if you can get to the laser)
Now clean it with lighter fluid (the stuff that goes in Zippo's etc)... that stuff evaporates without leaving a residue. I used it many times on my CD player and it's great.
This is most likely your problem.. i can't think of any other reason :|

well If you are going to crack it open (very easy BTW) then you can adjust the aparature (there's a white gear) until it reads the disc this was a major problem with the original ps2.
