This is my (small) collection of 1:18 models, will be getting another 1 or maybe 2 on Friday. I’m not sure whether to go for the ‘cheaper’ models like Hot Wheels and Maisto or go for AutoArt….which cost about double as much, what do you guy’s suggest?

The pics aren’t the greatest but you get the general idea. :D
My shitty attempt at making them look life size in an outdoor environment:

Then my parents cat (shot these at their house last weekend) decided to join in on the fun:

Maisto F50:

The pics outside are nice! And cars are sooo funny :D they seem to always pop up when you take pics of something :D

As for the Hotwheels vs Autoart question, my suggestion is to go with Autoart or Kyosho.. sure with the same model you could buy 2x or even 3x cheaper ones, but I'd rather have a single good model than 3 not-so-good ones :D

Dingo22 Ill tell you what i believe. Its better to have 1 high quality model rather than having 2/3 Hot Wheels/Buraggo/Maisto quality models. And its even better to save money for a couple of handbuilts(1/43 scale).. They may cost a lot, but handbuilts give you a different kind of pleasure when you collect them. So id suggest you to save your money and buy Autoart/Kyosho 1:18 models. With this way your collection is going to be smaller but richer.

dingo
10-20-2004, 11:20 AM
Thanks for your thoughts TT and Mr. Vercetti, I think I will try and stay with Autoart.....none of the shops around here seem to have any Kyosho models. :?
I would really like to get an extensive Ferrari collection though, but Autoart doesn't make them so for the Ferrari's I'm stuck with Maisto/Buraggo. :(

Thanks guys, got myself an AutoArt 1:18 Gallardo today.....very nice. :D I compared it with a Maisto side by side and its just so much nicer, especially the interior which even has the floor mats/carpet. :D The only problem with it is that the engine cover doesn't seem to stay open by itself, which is a shame. :(
I will get some pics of it on the weekend hopefully.

I actually noticed the shop does have some Kyosho models, but not many. They have a couple of very nice Countach's, then there is an AutoArt M3 CSL and Miura in orange which I also want. :P

Mr.Vercetti

This is a 1/24 scale Ferrari 348tb I got off a friend for free, so I wasn't going to refuse it even though its nothing special:

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/1703/348tb.jpg
http://img94.exs.cx/img94/7038/348tb1.jpg

and a new display shelf for my (still small) collection, was made by my dad who is a bit of a wizard in making things. Its obviously not as good as something you'd buy from the shops, but once again this was cheap and it does the job very well. The dimensions are roughly 1.2m x 0.6m.....and should house between 20-30 cars (1:18 ) depending on how I position them. :D
I've only taken I pic and its hard to get a good one in this room, its a darkish room and with the lights on there is lots of reflections....but gives you an idea:

dingo
11-22-2004, 12:11 PM
well making this one caused enough grief for him, so asking for another one could be stretching the father-son bond.....LOL. :D I can still fit at least another 12 models in there, but since I just started working 40hrs/week I have a feeling I know where the extra cash will go. :)

Here are a few new pics of my Autoart 1:18 Gallardo, inspired by TT (and his hints)….I think they turned out ok but could be better, the background doesn’t look completely black even though it is.

My two newest additions, I was only planning on getting the Testarossa but as I was walking towards the cashier I caught the BMW out the corner of my eye and couldn’t stop myself from buying it. :D
So here they are:

1:18 Hot Wheels Testarossa, doesn’t look to bad for a HW model :)

http://img34.exs.cx/img34/3434/dscf21785qm.jpg
http://img34.exs.cx/img34/2987/dscf21776jm.jpg

1:18 Minichamps BMW M3 GTR Street/Strasse, this thing looks brutal…and very nicely detailed. Does anyone else here have the same model, because if you do I have a question about it?

do/did you have any trouble with the bonnet on the car? The first time I tried to open it, it was very hard to do and eventually it came off the car completely. I managed to force it back in after a long time trying to do it carefully, it now sits in properly but is still very hard to open/close. :?

gis
12-12-2004, 12:42 PM

LMAO....so you basically have the opposite problem, yours wont stay open and mine is too hard to open. However once I get it open it stays there, you could probably drop a brick on it and it wouldn't move...LOL. :D

gis
12-12-2004, 01:48 PM

yes I did, so I had to go and weigh it as I was curious how much it was........1.19kg was the reading. :D

gis
12-12-2004, 02:12 PM

I try to stick with 1:18 models but I saw these two (1:24) and they were really cheap so I couldn't resist. They are obviously not the most detailed models out there but for $12 you can't ask much, and I really wanted a Zonda. :D

Zonda:

well I went there planning on getting a 1:18 Ferrari (355 or F40) but once I saw the Zonda I didn't have enough $$$ to get the 1:18 aswell. I had a feeling the Zonda would feel scared amongst all the bigger models so I got him a buddy in the 456GT :P

After getting the 993 Carrera S I was in the mood for another 90's sportscar - so I got myself a F355 Spider from Hotwheels. :D I was expecting it to be worse, but its not that bad for a HW model. The problem is I also bid for one on E-bay made by UT because I think it looks better, but I forgot about that when I bought this one - so if I win I will have 2 355 Spiders :?

Oh ok, who makes 1:43 355's?

As said by Vercetti, the top names only actually :D
but in "my" store they have some older models with discount prices.. they never sold one as far as I can see, and they are around 80 Swiss francs, almost 2x a normal 1:43.. and there are a couple 355 in there.. sadly they come with no display box, so I never took the decision to get one :D

I know, your pics of the GT are what made me decide to buy it since I have never seen it in person at the shop - only online in really small pictures :)

I personally like the red striped one better.

I keep changing my mind with every picture I see of the RS, but for the moment the blue is my favourite :D

Quite nteresting! Obviously I was taking about 1:43 ones, and most of them are racing versions (I'd prefer a roadgoing one, but well).. basically they are all the same, but one of the one used at the Torino motorshow in 196x, the other in the Paris motorshow 196x, the one which raced the Targa Florio, the other which didn't race it...
I was wondering if it would be wise to pick a blue/yellow 250 GTO or if I should stick to a red one
