I just went back to my parked car about 15mins ago and saw a parking ticket under the windshield wiper. It was in a free parking zone (for 1hr) and I had only been there for about 20mins.....so I was shocked and seeing red!!! :x
I didn't read the ticket properly at first so I didn't see what it was really for, so I hunted down the %$#$ who gave it too me and asked him what it was for. He told me I was facing in the wrong direction (its parallel bays along side the road), and said it was a hazard for oncoming cars.....BULLSHIT. :?
However I noticed that on the ticket he had put the wrong rego number....he switched the '8' and the '0'....so I think I can get away with it. IF I don't pay and they come looking for me they'll never match it to me since that isn't my rego number.....HAHA. :D
Anyone have any similar experience and can tell me whether I am right in assuming this? :)
hahahahahhaa, sorry i got no experience with parkin tickets mate but i gotta say u found one hell of a smart ticketing officer!!! LOL

^ well I was thinking about it, but probably wouldn't have got me anywhere.
My only concern is that the next time he see's my car (since he is there everyday and I park there alot) he will notice the mistake and let the department know about it.....but I hope by then it wouldn't be legal anymore. :?

Are there cameras or videos in the area that could show your car facing the wrong way?
If not - take steps immediately to file a complaint - state that he threatened to "give you a ticket for no reason - because he can", tell them you come out and he had put a fake ticket on your "right-way" facing car.
Who knows - you might beat the rap trying to lie your way out.... or they may produce photos and catch you in the lie and have in jail before Christmas.. :P ;)

i'm pretty sure legal documents cannot be amended unless he writes you a new one at time of offence. so even if you told him the correct plates. he can't do shit

I would think any attempt to alter a previously written ticket would be illegal ?
surely thats similar to a policeman tampering with evidence or something :P

There are no cameras in the area at all....its actually a fairly quiet back street.
I don't think I'll start lying just yet, since I have 28days to pay before they can do anything....but I just won't do anything and see what happens.

i doubt its illegal to park "the wrong way" and even if it is, if he didnt put your reg on the car, they cant fine you, how are they going to send u a fine if your address isnt related to the reg on the ticket? ;)

i think you could of gotten away because of the licance plate,
there has been many cases with people (some i have knowen!) getting out of alot of things, speeding tickets, because the cop wrote am, not pm, wrong licance plates, wrong days, date.
thats all it can take sometimes, it is purley revenue raising, he ovisley was low on his quota so had to be a fuckhead and give you a ticket.

Illegal to park facing the wrong way! Chirst, what a stupid law! Good to see that parking attendants are hates across the globe lol
Second, filing a complaint like RC45 suggested can get you in even more trouble.
Good to know you live under a dictatorship where a citizen/resident is not allowed to report bad conduct.. :)
Looks like corruption runs so deep in Belgie that it is an accepted way of life.. ;)
They aren't going to doubt the guy that quickly and you can be charged instead by the guy for something they call here "theft of honor".
Wow - quite a country you live in, where fear of persocution (vs prosecution) keeps the citizenry in line.. :P

Illegal just about everywhere but the UK, AFAIK, Jon.
Of course it is however illegal to park facing the wrong way on a one-way street in the UK...

This is true lol,
Has anyone got a picture of a sign telling you that you cannot park in a certain direction? It would not surprise me if this is brought in in the UK. Although, if it does come in, and I want to park on the other side of the road, I think the handbrake may get some use lol :P

Yeah, ive had this before. Parked in bays that were 45 degrees to the curb, and I had my rear to the kerb instead of my front. I hadnt noticed that the sign said 'front to kerb'. BUT:
1) My vehicle was taking up exactly the same space that it would have if it had been facing the other way
2) It was in a quiet backstreet
3) WTF???? WHO CARES which way the car is facing?? As long as it is between the lines. I dont think ive ever seen a sign saying '45 degree parking, front to kerb' before. When you see angled parking, people reverse in all the time, I didnt even bother to check the sign.
4) At the time I had a disabled sticker on my dash. And the f**ker gave me a ticket anyway. Good work.
What shits me most about some parking tickets is that it is so blatantly there to make money off you, rather than targeting someone who is actually causing a nuisance, i.e. parking their car in a driveway or clearway. Talk about abuse of power......... 'yeah, lets give a $$$ fine to someone who technically isnt causing any problem, just because we can!"
:x :x :x
Anyway, thats the end of my little rant

He wasn't a cop, they call them parking rangers
we refer to them as meter maids on this side of the pond. they drive around in three wheeled ice cream trucks with a little peice of chalk on a stick and mark your tire. if the mark doesn't move by the time they come back, you get a ticket..of course..that could be an excuse to burn off a little rubber from your tires
"but officer..the mark isn't in the same position it was an hour ago"

we had meter maids on the gold coast but of a different kind. they wore bikinis and when they saw your meter about to expire they put in $1. all of this is out of generosity. but i think the council had them shut down. i swear our country isnt run by enough horny men!

there was a guy who did this in a clown suit carrying a bucket of quarters in Seattle awhile back. they tried to make him stop but then a lady in a fairy costume popped up...they tried making her stop but the meter clown came back. they gave up after awhile.

I just downloaded the 413 page document on Australian road rules....and it makes great reading, if anyone wants it PM me.
I wanted to see if it said anything about my situation, and here is what it said in the parallel parking section:
"The driver must position the vehicle to face in the direction of
travel of vehicles in the marked lane or line of traffic on, or
next to, the part of the road where the driver parks."
So it seems he was right in booking me, but still harsh I feel....a warning would have been enough to stop me doing it again. :)
When I confronted him he actually told me to refer to my road rules handbook, but I didn't have one....now I do. :P

That "front to curb" for the 45 degree parking is a bit odd. I would be fucked if I drive down there as I always reverse in, so that I can make a safe (non reverse) exit. I am more likely to reverse into the path of a car, or into an unseen person reversing out than reversing in!
I have come across some silly rules/laws in my time, bit this is coming close to the top! I cannot believe I have not heard of it before! Maybe I am just blind and don't read signs when driving abroad lol....ahhh the joy of tourist ignorance!

jon_s it depends on the direction of angle. sometime it gets a bit tight for you to reverse. so that front to kerb does makes sense. so does the rear to kerb rule. sometimes i wonder, wouldn't it be easier to just repaint the lines in the other direction. some decisions these ppl make bewilders me sometimes.

It was $AU 50, which is about $35 US. Its the least they can fine you I believe, but the officer said I was lucky it wasn't a cop who picked me up since they would fine we either $80 or $100. I don't believe that one bit, the same offence can have three different fine amounts....he was just trying to make himself sound like a generous guy. :)

Fair point, I see what you mean about being 'tight'. I suppose that type of parking is not that common in the UK, well in London at least.
Any more progress on the ticket front?

Any more progress on the ticket front?
Well I have 28 days to pay before they do anything.
What I did this morning was ring the licensing centre to check if the rego plate which is on the ticket actually exists....and it does, so some poor guy is gonna get a reminder to pay his fine which isn't for him. :)
It will be interesting to see what happens...... :D

** UPDATE **
well the situation has just changed, as I have received a 'reminder notice' advising me to pay $50 by the 5th Jan. On this notice my rego number is correct all of a sudden, so they somehow realised there mistake and changed it.
What should I do, since if I mention on the original ticket the rego was wrong I am basically admitting that I did commit the offence??????
Any advice would be appreciated, since I really don't want to have to pay this fine. :(

give them the origional with the wrong rego number written on it and say "i don't own this car" basicley
but in WA they don't respond to phone calls, they only talk/negociate via. the courts.. :(
here is an intresting thing i read in a perth car club forum.
Do what someone did several years ago with a mate of mines car.
Found a similar car and 'borrowed' its plates at an unamed wrecker, made slits in the numberplate mount, and plopped them in whenever we parked. Fines made great paper planes.
weather it is true or not, is up for debate.
but the topic on that forum was brought up because he parked on a street in perth, and kept moving his car evrey 2 hours (in a 2 hour parking zone) to a different part of the street, and wondered why he got the fine, but aparantley thats against the law.

but if I do that I am admitting this ticket was found on my car, and therefore that I DID commit the offence. :? I'm not sure if I can argue the ticket on the basis the rego number is wrong when I am admitting to parking illegally??

yeah it does unfortunately, seems I may just have to pay the damn fine. :( I just still believe that you cannot change the details after the offence has been committed, its a bit like tampering with evidence IMO. Another thing I can compare it too is when a shop puts the wrong price on some product, they have to give it to you at the display price even though they made a mistake....in Oz anyway. :)
However I don't know the rules/law regarding the ticket, and its not worth getting legal advice over it since its 'only' $50. :(
