ARDMORE, Pa. -- Where do you hide a $729,000 Ferrari?

That's what police in the Philadelphia suburbs want to know, after a con man drove off with a red Ferrari F-50 during a test drive.

The F-50 can hit 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds and tops out at 203 mph.

The car hasn't been seen since the thief, a nattily dressed man who claimed he had flown up from Atlanta and had a limo waiting nearby, took the test drive Sept. 16 without producing a license. The identification, he said, was in the wallet he had left at the airport.

The salesman from Algar Ferrari in Rosemont first took the prospective buyer for a spin, then let him get behind the wheel. During the test drive, the man pulled to the side of the road and asked the salesman to drive back to the dealership. When the salesman got out, the thief sped off.

Police theorize the car was hustled into a trailer and quickly shipped overseas for sale on the black market.

The company made just 349 of the eye-popping Italian roadsters in 1995 to commemorate its 50th anniversary. It's described by one car-enthusiast Web site as "part Batmobile, part ballistic missile."

that's just insane!! and i'm utterly shocked, cause i was looking at the thread names and obviously this one stood out...so i was like okay, let's see what happened. I start reading and what immediately struck me was the "Ardmore, PA" part... THAT DEALER IS 5 MINS FROM MY HOUSE!!! i've been to that dealer (Algar Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo) several times, and i took tons of pics of that specific car (they wanted 789k for it btw)!! wow...im utterly shocked...

lol if i knew how to post pics, i'd post a bunch i took, but would someone care to enlighten me as to how to do so?

And i know of one being sent back to modena for a re-build. dont know what happen to the others. got images of all the crashed cars too i think....and if you have more images dude could you please post them!!!!!!!!!

I saw pics of the F50 GT crash somewhere. it happened on a track due to cold tires. I heard that it was going to be rebuilt by Ferrari.

btw I have pics of the F50 in the Galleria Ferrari in Maranello (and any other car that's there). I may post them when I have the time.

I think the owner of the F50 Gt let someone else drive it that day at sears point. Alot of people crashed that day too. It was sad to see pics of it picked up by a fork lift. :(

yes, the owner let a racing driver (don't remember who) drive the F50 GT. it was some kind of an event. the tires were cold (it was just a demonstration lap) and the racing driver lost control at a point where the tarmac surface isn't consistent.

I was talking to one of my friends who knows that dealer (and the people who work there) and he was saying that the owner said that he was hoping that it wouldnt sell cause he loved it being there in the dealership attracting potential Ferrari customers...hmmm

i also have a couple pics from inside/outside the dealer showing what it looks like, but they're all the size of those F50 pics and i didnt wanna post em unless someone wanted me to :roll:
