i THINK, don't quote me on this cuz i might be wrong, that they have foot pedal parking brakes. Either that or they are going the way of the BMW 7 series and opting for electronicly actuated park brakes.

more than likely the second one since it will cut down on clutter around the center console or footwell. Just a guess though so i'm not sure.

my mom has a foot brake and it doesnt really clutter up because AMG's are autos? if thats right then it would be likely foot brakes

they've got foot breaks. they're the only german company who does it too. i guess the rich, fat, wrinkled, arthritis-wrecked people who like mercs don't have enough arm strength to use a regular hand break.

I don't know about americans, but ALOT of ppl don't pull their hand brakes here. I guess it's just too much work for their muscles. Anyways, I guess instead of wasting precious console space, they just put it down low.

Most people here don't pull their handbrakes because everyone drives automatics here, and I guess they feel they don't need to pull the handbrake once they park. I will admit, on the rare occasion that I drive an auto I usually don't pull the handbrake...because if I do the next person who drives the car doesn't notice and drives off for a few feet with the e-brake on.

I always use the handbrake when I park my car, because it sure as hell will roll if I don't lol. Those footbrakes are lame though, you have to press another thing to make them release, you can't just push the button in like on an e-brake and yank it up and then put it back down again really quickly...not that anyone would ever need to do that... ;)

I never use the hand brake on flat ground. Being a Saab man I'm used to parking in gear, and that is more than enough even with some inclination. Of course, to be on the safe side I pull the handbrake when it isn't flat...

so Sir_GT were are they?

They're present on pretty much every merc model I believe (the C,E,M,CLK,CL,CLS,and the S, not sure about the A, SLK and SL). Unlike the two brands you pointed above where they are only on the models which rich, fat, wrinkled, arthritis-wrecked people prefer.

I drive the A8, and the handbrake is a little flap right above the volume adjuster in the center conslole.

You people know that if you dont use your handbrake every so often... say every 1000 miles, your rear brakes can get out of adjustment rather quickly. That is why factory spec's. recommend that you always use the parking brake when you park (hense the name  ). I had a freind of mine that let me drive his audi and when i pulled the hand break to slide a corner, it came all the way up.... like ALL the way up, and did nothing.
Anyway, hand brakes = Foot brake = :x Why? Because I say so, thats why :D
