Clarification for all non Dutchies: UPC is one of the major players on the Dutch broadband internet market aswell as the cable television and cable radio market.
Beginning september we received a letter from UPC that we would receive a new modem shortly. A few weeks later they informed us in writing that the 27th of September would be Xchange day. Somebody older than 18 years who was able to identify himself properly had to be at home between 16:00 - 22:00 hrs.
Being a very obedient citizen we waited and somewhere around 19:30 hrs the new modem came. In exchange of our old modem, which operated all the previous years without a glitch and without any verbal guidance on how to install the new modem, you got it all in writing she said, the lady left again.
And so we started our journey on how to get linked to the WWW again. That journey took us 11 days and at least 10 phonecalls of, on average, 15 minutes each and gave us a rare insight on how UPC value their customers.
Well to cut a long story very short: they don't.
I never beleived all those horror stories about UPC which float around the Inet but I'm afraid they are true.
So I have decided to switch from operator (Internet / Television / Radio) as soon a I have found a suitable alternative. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
BTW: The Groomlake I'm living in is offically called Hellevoetsluis.
