View Full Version : Houston 10-3-2004 (Segway)
Well - we spent a couple hours in Galveston playing with some rental Segways... what a blast.
I can't wait for them to start showing up as used equipment - these should be fun when modded with power adders..

awsome, what are the segway's like to use? i haven't seen one yet alone ridden one.
The rental spot insisted on the helmet (as it qualifies under the bicycle exemption for street use)
The Segway is piss easy to use - in fact, if you can master standing in front of a urinal or sitting in a chair or using an escalator - you can use the Segway.
I have no doubt even those from continental Europe could master it... :P

Just wanna ask... do you guys think Segways are just "toys"? I'm thinking of getting one and one of my girlfriends said I just wanted to have another toy.
It's just a toy... even after having a couple hours of fun - it provided no excercise value, stimulation or added functionality - just a mechanism to g;ide down the side walk... even kids on skateboards and chicks on roller-blades passed us up laughing.. :P

Of course Fat americans can get to their fridge on it * Comes out of stereotype mode* :P  BTW i finally got quicktime and it looked like fun, though i'm not sure who could manage to do themselves serious harm on one

That might be for some other reason.

Then the Americans will never learn how to use it.
I still think it looks like crap and any grown man riding one looks like a retard. No offence intended, of course. :|

was it not your president that managed to fall off of a segway??? :P

Who knows - if you begin to step off it it will instantly fall over...

To tell you the truth, it is... :) I've tested one out a couple of days ago (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18658) and if you dont read the manual or if someone didnt orient you with it you'd think it would stand on its own all the time. Dubya doesnt come accross to me as someone who'd keep track of the latest of geek toys or read owner's manual.
Anyway Segways turn on using different keys corresponding to your level of readiness. I've tried the beginner setting for about 5 mins and it was a bit orienting. It feels a bit like falling when you move forward or back but you dont fall. When you ride one you have to keep thinking that you're not gonna fall and this is how it works. Stopping is a simple press of the red button.
