Well another 3 days wasted !!!

Got my new Xentera GT4 quad video card to complete my PC re-build and guess what...two of my 9X media monitors (Samsung 21TFT's) wont fire up in digital input mode...

AHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!! this has been going on for almost a damn year now !!!!!

Anyway they work fine in analogue mode and also digital mode if you connect a video signal to them that has already been activated from the video card by a working monitor.

A little complicated to explain but there must be a "wake up" signal that is sent to them when the computer is starting up...and its this signal they wont listen to (tried another computer as well that I know is working fine as it powers up the other monitors during boot up)

Anyone got any ideas ??? I don't think Samsung will repair them as they are re badged and of course sending them back to 9X media will almost cost the same in shipping as buying new monitors would cost in the UK.

Anyone know any good forums (except this one :P ) where someone might be able to help me.

All help highly appreciated by the poor suffering Jabba that wants to get back to uploading loads of videos for everyone to enjoy again.

hmmm... is it an issue with the samsungs not waking up, or the video card itself not sending.. That sounds like the more likely case. Aka.. maybe on boot the video card is not setting itself automatically to the right setting? That would be a setting on the video card software, which Id try xenteras tech support for.. They might be trained monkeys, but other then someone whos used there card your not going to find much input without someone comming there themselves to observe..

Over the phone its nearly impossible to diagnos this type of problem if you havent used this particular hardware. The issue sounds at most like a sync up problem.

Its the Samsungs for sure and this is why.

If you connect the same video outputs with the same cables to the other Samsung monitors they power up fine...proving there is nothing wrong with the video card.

Second I got another independent PC with an ATI 8500 DV video card with digital output and connected it to each of the monitors with the same cable...guess what...two of them worked and two of them didn't...and yes it was the same two that didn't work with the Xentera GT4 card....I spent 3 days on this...I am 99.9 % sure its the monitors.

ok...
did you try 9x tech support.

I would suggest deeply against taking the things apart to try and fix anything hardware wise. If its a monitor issue and its not a setting thing.. its mostly likely only fixable by replacement. Not to mention working with the interior of a monitor is generally dangerous. Lots of nice fun capacitors that could shock the daylights out of you.

Im not sure the capacitor thing is true for lcd moniters, none the less i wouldnt take it apart either. You should just send it all to me.

perhaps.. its certainly true for standard monitors..

the nice big warning on the last one I opened about some extreme number of volts proved that point quick..

Try getting em on repair on a samsung workshop , maybe you wont get warranty but paying for the fix will be cheaper than sending em overseas , never thought the happiness you had when buying your monster and it all has become a nightmare , very sad to hear things kept malfunctioning . Maybe somebody can help you , but i would take em to repair , fixing each one could be expensive , but i remember that 800 and something dollars bill for shipping em ...

i dont know much about flatpanel DVI, but i have repaired a tube tv a few times. so i dont think i can help much...

im going to sound dumb, but is there an 'idiot switch' somewhere on those monitors which was switched to analog in the process of moving here or there?

im guessing such a switch is unlikely...
much luck, and good fortune to this lengthy and problematic situation

Good idea....however they have an auto sensing feature that you can see "looking" for a digital signal then when it cannot find one it starts to look for an analogue signal...if it cant find one of those either it starts showing the Samsung screensaver.

We had the same problem with our monitor. When we started the computer, the monitor showed the message: "No signal. Going to sleep."
We had to start the computer 5-6 times before it got a signal at all. We kept shutting of the computer and the monitor, start them up again, pray, and discover the message again.
Anyway, we had the computer changed, not the monitor, and now we have no problem.
