Hard Disk Problems

Hi,

9 months ago my hard disk failed. Atleast i think it failed, all of a sudden it booted as normal and came up with "DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"


so i reinstall windows xp, it goes fine, then does it again on reboot.

Finally yesturday i allocatted enough money to buy a 120gb WD SE 8mb cache drive, new ide leads. I plug them all in, muck around with the jumpoer, get it working, install win 98 (dont have xp anymore :() and its fine. Install geforce drivers and direct x. "please press ok to reboot".

Reboot.

WTF? so im running a completely new hdd, new ide cables, no cd's in the cdr or dvd other than windows cd (which i took out on another try), hdd IS detected........ wtf?


Im running;

Asus a7v333 mb
athlon xp 2100
was running a maxtor 80gb 2mb cache hdd now running 120gb western digital 8mb cache one
new ide cables
Switchin power supply (its not this otherwise the LED on the mainboard would flash)

any ideas???????

I need this pc to do all my coursework on ect.

it could be a fault in a portion of your motherboard.

QAll workin now, i had forgotten to enable this disk in bios, so ibe been thick for 9 months grrrrrrr
