1. what kind of transmission is this?
2. What car/cars did this come out of?
3. How many gears? 5 speed (TigerX)
4. (kind of vague) Transmission or Transaxle?
5. AWD/RWD/FWD?
BONUS: what series number is it?
HINT if you have a really good comp you might be able to zoom and read the brand off the Synchros.
Good luck with this one.

well i'd have to say its a four-speed manual and knowing you it probably came out of an old mustang or something like that and therefore being RWD

It would say a transmission, directly mounted on the engine and 4wd since the pinion is mounted on the output shaft. If this one is hollow it could possibly be out of an Audi Quattro or at least a manual Audi with the real Quattro system with Torsen central differential.
If this isn't correct I would guess it's a rear mounted transmission (front mounted engine) with directly mounted rear differential.

sort of correct sort of not.
It is mounted on the engine and it's a longitudinal tranny.

Since T-bird said it was a longitudinal tranny, it can't be a Golf.

true this tranny is longitudinal and only FWD BUT adaptable for AWD for use on the Quattro.

hmm....any chance it is out of an A or S4 or 6?
i don't know much about VW/Audi so if i get it right, it is a semi-educated guess

I'm following ZfrkS62. I would say a Audi A4/A6 or a VW Passat

Actually it was out of the Quattro from way back when with the rear end adapter removed. we have 2 of them along with a new A8 tranny and a new TT trans.
