View Full Version : Port are AFL champions!!!

This probably won't interest anyone outside of Australia, but Port Adelaide have just won the AFL (thats the Australian rules national football competition) premiership for 2004. They beat the Brisbane Lions, who had won the previous three titles, by 40 pts in a great game IMO.
I was happy to see the Power win, not because I follow them but more so that Brisbane didn't win again. :D
What are the thoughts of the guys who watched the game?
BTW, next year is going to be the Freo Dockers turn. :wink:

i thought it was rely an insane game, i was ment to go to the casino to watch it, but slept in...
im disapointed, i wanted brisbane to get into the record books for 4 in a row, they are an insane team, but they just seemed to fuck up the grand final!

Like Sam Newman said on MMM:

It was an exciting slog/ 'arm-wrestle' of a game, but wasn't a highly skilled game.

It was a good game to watch up until 5 minutes left in the third quarter, then it was game over, Brisbane really took the foot off the pedal...very one sided.

I have mixed feelings about the game:

Certainly not the highest standard football match I've seen thats for sure.

I love watching Akermanis - what a player!

I would have liked Brisbane to win their 4th in a row on one hand so they could equal Collingwoods record and stick it up eddie.

On the other hand, I really like Port's coach Mark Williams - really nice man- I was happy for him.

^ I think you mean Mark Williams, not Paul.....but yes its good for him to get a win after the criticism he received the last couple of years. :D
