I was at the local dragracing event where the best car was capable of doing 9,1 seconds 0-400m (1/4th of a mile) with 1300 hp under the bonnet.

So I started to wonder what is the world record runs in different competition classes like "top fuel" etc..

I have seen vids where the time has been between 6-7 seconds, but i'm sure that tehre are faster dragsters also..

So please share your thoughts and knowledge (preferrably with pics/vids) :)

in the US we;ve got guys like John Force and Tony Schumacher (is it a rule that of your last name is Schumacher, you have to drive fast?)who will rip up the 1/4 mile in 3.2 sec at 305MPH (not quite sure what this is in km/h but the number is usually significantly higher) Of course when these engines blow the superchargers into ity bity peices it's a spectacular sight to behold
Im personally not all that big on drag racing, but im always amazed that someone can withstand the G-forces associated with that type of acceleration and sudden deceleration.

http://nhra.com/ <---copy and paste and you should be able to find some good info. this is the sanctioning body in the US for drag racing.

Tony Schumacher's career best is 4.441 @ 333.08mph in the 1/4 mile and that is the Record BTW.
