This is the VZ Monaro CV8, which was just released by Holden.
It comes with a 5.7L Gen III V8 producing 260kW (~350hp) and 500Nm of torque....and sells for $AU 60,490 (~$42K US).
The new vents in the bonnet have caused some debate but personally I think they look OK.
What do you guys think?

I still love how the car looks, however, the new bonnet ruined quite much the car IMO as well, once i prefer if they launched the same car with a plain bonnet.......

omg, what have they done to the bonnet!!

that rely is shocking, i think the first thing new owners will be doing, is replacing the bonnet!

and why diden't they include the side vents, like the other commadores!

^ Well Holden said at its lauch that the vents were in response to 'overwhelming' demand from the buyers, so if thats right they won't be changing the bonnet. :D
I also think it might have something to do with the GTO being sold in the US, since that wasn't accepted as well as was hoped.

Yeah the bonnet is ugly, but I like the car overall.

gee I wonder why it would sound like a Camaro...
And it looks nothing like a Camaro not one bit, the funny part is that we pay less for the same car and ours has to be shipped across the world. :D
We pay $33,000 total
and it's exactly the same car with the ram air hood.

I'd say that the hood is a very nice touch. maybe it's because i'm used to seeing so many ricers with new hoods on their civics.

nice car, and the design looks almost similar to HSV, but with new headlamps, and yes that bonnet must go...except Holden trying to put a V-8 twin turbo on this thing with the intercooler on top, I guess its ok...

Don't like those bonnet vents at all.

I've seen previous Commodores with them. The cars were by another local company specialising in tuning Holdens in a similar vein as HSV. CSV (Corsa Specialised Vehicles). I didn't mind those, bit less 'in yer face' than the current VZ look. :?

What from CSV buyers (insignificant)? Or the US market (big numbers, hopefully)?

Intresting, take the monaro, turn it into the GTO for the US then take the GTO and turn it back into the monaro for everyone else

that's the same engine as the US Version GTO right?

there's a GTO that parks next to me in my building's parking structure.......it looks very average in person. rubbish interior too....the peformance is OK, but it's a heavy car, so 350hp gets sucked up trying to drag the weight around.

Please note for 2005 the gto gets a hood like that and the 400 hp ls2.

I think it was from both Aussie and US buyers.
BTW here are some nice high-res pics of it, plus close-ups of that bonnet:

Not bad. The interior still needs a lot of work though.

The story is, and I should know I help build these things, is that the Americans wanted bonnet scoops. So, we gave them THESE bonnet scoops. Then they turned around and said, no we don't like them, we don't want them. Fine.

But now we are stuck with them because of the great expense that went into manufacturing the new tooling for these bonnets. And as far as I know, these bonnets will not be optional but rather standard spec, so if you want a normal bonnet, bad luck.

BTW, the Americans I believe may still get bonnet vents on their GTO version but not the ones the Aussies designed.

If I had a working scanner I'd get a pic of the Americanised GTO. It actually looks tuff!!!! with brake cooling scoops (like a supra etc.) for the rear brakes, 355 wide rears and a sort of widebody looking kit.

There is also news that the production of the Monaro/GTO may leave Australia and go to an overseas plant instead.

How do you like them apples? ;)

the automatic gear always breaks....(it happened twice....once with me!!!)

it did for the Lumina SS.....which is almost the same as the Holden....

and the built quality is the worst!!! Cheapest car of all time....

But the power is amazing!!! 8)

LOL....LMAO, you must be kidding. It really isn't that bad, just not as nice as the european cars. The cars you get over there might be worse than whats on the market in Aust.
