error downloading codec error

this just started recently... and all my codecs are up to date. windows media seems to think my vid files need an updated codec, then connect to the server, just to have an error... and play anyway.

the same thing appears to be happening on my dad's pc, however, his wont play media files (doesnt really matter to much to me, as he doesnt watch vids on his rig)

the only real problem ive seen is when ive tried to convert *.mpg--->*.wma.

ive since disabled the auto-update codec option.

the only time ive ever had that problem is with svcd/vcd which wmp istn supposed to play any way. but for some reason does.
