New water cooling up and running

Following on from the other thread I am now leak testing my new external water cooling system. So far so good.

Big thanks to Dan and the Belgium Bear.

Although Dan has already advised me back channel I was wondering what temps you would expect to see for a stock intel based air cooled system for a 3.4 ghz P4.

I only ask as I had to re-do the thermal paste again and I didnt have much left....I was wondering looking at the temps that I am getting whether I used enough or not ?

My friend has a 3.2 using air-cool stock fan, it is usually around 37~40 C, so 30 is a quite below the norm. However, I have seen water cooled P4 running on 20s... so maybe you should give that a look.

Anywho, now with the water cooling maybe time for some overclocking =)

Yes I doubt I will get back to my 4.0 ghz that I was getting with my vapochill though.

glad to see your main system up and running again. its a shame you had all the trouble with the cooling.

my system (P4 2.6) which I bought in TX doesnt have anything as fancy but it does have about 3 or 4 fans in the case which is more than I've seen before...

Do you know what temps you are getting on your cpu trans ?

Just for reference my 2.4 @3.5 is running at 40 -+1,2 C idle and about 4,5+ on heavy load such as gaming.

I believe the stock temps, depending on the temp outside, should range from 38-50 on average. It may be lower if its cold out, or higher if its hot out. But 41.2 seems pretty hot for water cooling, but then again I don't know much about water cooling.

30 C is quite healthy for any pc.
im glad to see the evovling beast rising once again 8)
before i filled my case with virtually every thing that could fit, i was running 39 C with an amd xp @2000mhz oc from 1667mhz.

you can expect your computer to run 5-15 degrees C above ambient room temperature, i would assume based on my non-intel rig.

I dont even know how watercoolers work. And I am into computers. Can someone explain what they are, where they connect and stuff?

You have a pump and a radiator and fans. On top of the radiotor you have fans blowing on it, cooling it.

The pump is to circulate the water through all the pipes and the radiator. As the water passes through the radiator which is getting cooled by the fans on top of it the water gets cooled aswel....Im sure you got that part anyway :P
