Today my main IBM 120GB Hard Drive failed - It started clicking and I had no time to back anything up.
I've lost all my video's, MP3's, Some important digital photos and other files I use for work
Does anyone know any cheap data recovery sites I might be able to use ??
I'm guessing I need approx 50-60Gig of data recovered
Thanks :)

I have some very good and expensive recovery software that I can send to you...maybe you could give it a go if all else fails ???
And if programs fails, there always around some amazing gurus able to save an HD even when you shoot at it... but usually pretty expensive and rare to find if you don't know one of them :-/
What happened to you sucks :(

Thanks Jabba but unfortunately the BIOS doesn't recognise the drive and from what I’ve read on other software recovery sites I need at least that to happen before any software can recover data :x
I'll keep trying though.
I've sent a couple of e-mail requests to get quotes for how much it will cost to recover files. I won't get a repsonse back until tomorrow i'll wait until then.

hmmm it would appear that the actual electronic parts have failed then...yes you really need some expert advice on that one...well my thoughts are with you...and I know all to well that dreadful sinking feeling you probably had in your stomach when the reality of the situation hit you...I really hope you get some good news tommorow....

Dude, when a HD starts making strange sounds it's game over. This implies mechanical (not software) problems. I'm affraid it will be very hard to recover data now. My HD once made a whining noise while spinning real fast. The data were on the disc, but because of mechanical malfunctions of the thing it was impossible to access the disks. I bet you're really pissed off now. Hope you have backups. :? Probably not, I know how that goes. :(

Do cheap data recovery people exist?? In my firm a partner lost his HD due to overheating, the cost to get all the info back ran into thousands!! Although that was express service, he got it back within a day or two. Good luck dude!

Just think about it though...if you could move the actual disc parts onto the exact same model of drive...that has a working controller...then you should be up and running again...obvisouly you need experience at doing this sort of thing...but I bet thats how some data recovery companies bring dead drives back to life....and very quickly as well
in fact I would say that may be even easier than dealing with "corrupted" data...

cheap ppl don't exist. at work, the director had 80gb of contracts and plans. it cost $70aud per gb and then they put it on some 100 cd-r's. luckily they were sensitive and he had to do all the copying himself.
but next next time don't go for ibm...there are always complaints for their unreliability.

You happen to one of those IBM deathstar HDs? Try to shutdown the box for a while to let it cool down. There's known problem with the temperature calibration for the IBM drives. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies
As you can imagine I’m really annoyed. I can just about live with losing the Videos and MP3's but not some photos, work files and my Internet Favourites
I’ve had a quote of £900+vat for complete recovery but that it just too expensive :x
Damn IBM !!! The drive is only 6 months old, if anything I would have expected my older IBM 60GXP to brake. Live and learn I spose
