I dont know if anyone else heard about this but on thursday michael schumacher crashed at monza while testing a new compound for bridgestone!!! He was going flat out at 340km/h (bout 210mph) when his tire punctured, he went over the gravel of the first chicane and straight into the barrier at 300km/h (180mph). He got out of the car on his own and just laid down for a couple of minutes, got up again and survived this horrific crash without even a sore neck!!! Amazing :D

Thats some pretty serious shit, ir reminds me at once to Ayrton Senna's crash, wow, he's glad he didn't have anything I think.

What a time to have a crash like that since you just won the Championship again.

Maybe its a some sort of a sign. He won the championship, then made a statement about him contnuing in F1, and now this.

Never gonna buy Bridgestones, ever!

^^^ After last weekend's GP I think it's safe to say that you're better off with Bridgestones than Michelins...

it is amazing he walked out,
goes to show the incredible strength of the modern F1 cars!

the back of the car looks real fucked up!

ironic, his brother had a crash at a slower speed, and fucked his spine up!

Quite incredible how he managed to survive such a high-speed crash without a scratch. It make take some time for him to get back to F1 racing I pressume. Such accidents don't happen everyday, he may be still shocked...

Well, the reason he came off unhurt is that he hit the barrier with the side of the car, where the sidepods that can sustain a huge amount of impact is situated, first. Ralph on the other hand hit the barrier directly from the back, and with only the back wing that can sustain any impact (the gearbox and engine do not help absorb any impact) he had a much more serious force on his neck...remember that it was the whiplash that caused his injury...the HANS device helped keep this injury to a minimum though!

i doubt he is feeling completely 100%, after any big crash, even if you dont feel it immediately he'll feel it in the next coming days although good to hear its nothing serious and i doubt he'll be effected for the next GP

there are many things that are curious in the formula 1 world....firstly.....the high passive safety rate that the carbon fibre makes to the formula 1, and how the carbon fibre works......secondly and a more curious thing IMO....although the formula 1 drivers arent racing the car, the rate of accident when testing the car is quite larger than during the racing weekend.......

Good point, but remember that during testing you still go 100% to make sure you know what to expect from the car during a race and you are also testing new components (tires in this case) that have not yet been rid of all their flaws...

^^^ i was just thinking about this, and i came to the same conclusion.During testing the driver is trying to find the best branking or exelleration points on the track. This is mostly trial and arror.

from the pics, it looks like he backed it into a wall or something.

I heard modern street car technology contributed to the safety of these race cars. it used to be the other way around.

He might be testing out the durability of new bridgestones and pushing it alittle to far. Bridgestone tires fail way less often than Michillens. I really hope that crash didn't affect this weekend's race. Luckily Ferrari is always strong at Monza, maybe Ruben will win for once. It's been a long time

Modern cars get their technology from the race cars. Always have always will. It's only a matter of time before street cars are made of carbon fibre too.

guys, you forget that anything man made is prone to fail at any given moment. This is especially true of tires since they are subjected to insane loads and run at temps that would melt a typical road tire.

At Monza, the high speeds interrupted by the quick chicanes can upset a tire's stability. and since the rear tires must handle the acceleration shifts, it's no surprise that it was one of the rear tires that punctured.

And lay off Bridgestone, i believe they have proven their reliability this year, leaving michilen where? oh yes...wadded up in the tire walls.

Bridgestones and Michilen both suck. Everyone knows that Fuzion makes the best tires. LOL
