GPS speedometers for cars?

I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about gps speedometers for cars. The speedometer in our F50 went out twice so far, and we are looking for some sort of solution. If anyone could tell me a little bit more about gps speedometer that would be great, are they a hassel, or are they simple to use? If you know any good links please post them, i looked on google and wasn't to successful.

They work pretty well. I used a garmin hand held unit when the camaro wasnt calibrated. Works just as accurate as a regular speedo.

They are simple to use.. just find one in your price range with good user visibility(screen wise, probably should have a backlight and a large display).

GPS is very accurate, so in a sense they are much better than a standard speedo...GPS is accurate enough to be used in aircraft for instance. They don't do well under hard acceleration, pretty much useless under those circumstances because the signal has so far to go it takes awhile for the GPS to register changes.

I've used one as a speedometer in a car, and in an airplane (works very well in an airplane because of mostly constant speed)...in the car, yes it was a bit of a hassle and lags maybe 2-3sec, but the one I used had confusing menus & it wasn't mine...so I'm sure if you spent some time with one it wouldn't be too hard to use.

Sounds like its not really worth it, well at least we have an excuse for speeding :)

yes they work real well, we found my friends wrx to be doing 97 when the spedo said 100

they can be a bit laggy sometimes thoe.

And, I guess more expensive GPSs lag less than cheap ones, but I really don't know

Actually.. that depends on the version you get. The higher the sample rate.. aka the more times it takes a signal, the more accurate it is.

mine was delayed for about half a second.. a definite justifiable lag to save me 300 dollars or a speeding ticket.
