Right, I got a phone call from a mate in need last nigh. To cut a long story short, I had to find a windows 2000 pro key. I have ended up with a load of spyware shit due to all the warez sites. Fine I thought, just run spy bot search and destroy. It found 200 of the things. Then I ran Ad-Aware SE, it also found another 200. Then I ran a virus scan, and I have "downloader-DA.dll" However my virus scan cannot clean it :?
Despite all this I still get pop ups. I disconnected the computer from the internet, and still got them, so there is a programe somewhere displaying this advert:
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/9871/spyware1.gif
Here are all my processes:
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/5167/proc1.gif
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/491/proc2.gif
Is there anything that should not be there? What about the first process on the the second image "WebRebates1.exe"
I am also getting these:
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/4761/spyad.gif
I have been through add/remove prog to see if there is anything there. But there is nothing unusual.
Any ideas? This is doing my head in, my computer was running really well untill last night! What have I missed/can I do e.t.c
Did you also run CWShredder? I'm a total noob but usually coupled with ad-aware it does a good job

you should run a firewall like zonealarm to prevent apps from downloading crap like that.

evo: some warez sites require you to dl something to get acess to their files. otherwise the link wont show.
jon: i use opera as my internet browser. but there are still some sites that dont work with it. so IE is still needed at times.

Humm, I am running both Ad-AwareSE and spy bot every 10mins. Spy bot has remained clean, but Ad-Aware has found some tracking cookies. I have done nothing but come to JW and another forum I use. There is a little programe somewhere on my system, but where is the little bugger!

Every time I start a fresh browser, I get this quickly flash. No window appears, then is goes away. I am going to run everything again, to see if it is loading something up

Is formatting your computer an option?
I use netscape, I believe that IE has some serious security issues.
And MAKE SURE YOU GET A FIREWALL like zonealarm. If you have all this crap on your computer then you can bet that some of the programs are accessing the net and transmitting data without your permission.

My computer is running a bit better, but not as good as it used to! I am waiting for windows to come throught the post  Then I will re-format.
I used to fun McAfee firewall, but it caused more trouble than it is worth. I will look into Zone Alarm.

Yes, zonealarm is definitely worth it.
It can be a bit annoying at the start, as everytime a program tries to access the net it asks 'do you want to allow this program to access the internet'. Then you can select 'yes', 'no' and it will remember what you said, and not ask you again.
Sometimes this means you can get booted out of games and back to the desktop if they try and access the internet, but you just select 'yes' or 'no' and it remembers for next time.
It makes you realise how much windows and almost all games (and some apps) try to access the net..... not sure why some of them need to, though :?:

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy (install it with TeaTimer so that it activelly blocks all incoming spyware stuff). Also get SpySweeper (try to find a crack for this cuz this one isnt free).
Whatever Spybot cant remove the first time, it will remove next scan. (It will prompt you if you want to schedule a scan next reboot).
Looking at your startup list, you have a SHITLOAD of crap there. No way it should have so much. Get "TuneUp Utillities 2004"
With TuneUp Utillities you can do a registry scan/fix a startup cleaner (remove all unwanted stuff starting up with your comp) and do a general checkup of errors.
With these progs you cant go wrong.

hey Demon, i just downloaded "tuneup utilities 2004", i am looking at tune up system information and it is showing a bunch of things, (i am using 66% of my memory, is that good bad?, how do i make it better?), what things do i need to change or should i change to make my cmoputer more efficient?
another things is tuneup startup manager and tuneup system control, how do i know if my computer is ok or not? This is all new to me so thats why i am asking, i don't want to change anything that will screw my computer up in anyway.
so if demon or anyone can help that would be great.
thanks a lot

I have 3 different spyware progs, cause not all of them find the same things. I run Webroot SpySweeper, prolly one of the best, Ad-Aware SE 1.05 Pro, another good one, and Spybot Search & Destroy, which is a free one that is nice. I got them all from torrents on www.suprnova.org.
