It wasn't THAT great looking to begin with.

I think the interior is an improvement and the exterior is a step backwards. It's getting chubby in it's old age and looks like it has an even fatter arse* than the old shape.
* but not as fat as the Renault Meganes Arse...

I agree, but why do you say it looks German??????
German hatches dont look like that. That new focus, looks more like a Honda/toyota/megane and what not....

No, but was a lot different and distinct.

I second Stikz argument here. The 4 door looks like a wanna-be citroen. Let's see how the WRC version comes out like. It has potential methinks.

It's not about the shape compared to the other hatches. It's about the execution of the design. It's about the logic. It's clean, all clean, no fuss, no nonsense. The flanks are flat, lights are just big enough, not too big, not too small. It's like putting Mondeo and Fiesta together. And you all know how boring they look. If you ask me, I'd say Ford is trying to pull a VW. Even look at the instruments, it could have easily come from any of the VW cars. I say all logic, no fun...at least in the looks.
By the way Ford Europe is a German company. It used to be British, but not anymore

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say, it's losing personality.

I agree. The new Focus is not so interesting as the old one. I hope the new saloon will be better because Ford showed a nice concept version some months ago.

Ford lost the plot years ago. How can you expect them to come up with something fresh, when all they ever do is to abuse old classic designs, and totally neglect their new models?
As for the VAG connection, did you take a look at the Mondeo next to a '02 facelift Passat? Looks more VAG than the Passat for gods sake. And while ord is busy copying the design language of the 2002 model Passat and A4, Audi has gone BMW and made some, er, interresting and anything but boring changes to their front end.
Line up a new Focus next to a new A3. I hardly think anyone will even notice there are two cars pesent...

Even Audi makes more interesting looking cars than Ford.

In this picture it really looks like the Leon.
It's uglier then before. It's not a hot-hatch anymore like HeilSvenska said. I can't imagine a Focus like this in a RS version... :?

I agree...ford has gone backwards with the new focus....on the one hand....ford made a big achievement with the design of previous the focus(in fact, 6 years are past since its launch on market, and it still looks modern and attractive)....whereas this once i see quite an ugly car...for example, its nowadays IMO the ugliest car in the class alongside the C4 which means hideous for me
Another thing...the audi grill....for me they are gone backwards also...while they have designed some beautiful shapes such as the current and the former A6, the same story with the A4, A3, A8..they made some mistakes when designing the A2,....and then theyve made another mistake with the new grill which seems that it will be implementated in the future for every audi model
