ATI should always be your first choice. I love their cards. I recently told my friend to buy that exact same ATI card you would like to get and it works perfectly fine and plays games smoothly...well depending what game it is.
Nvidia...never liked their products. :D

ATi I'm a fan of their cards especially their newer ones but you are really going cheap end don't you think?
I've seen 9600 pro's go for as little as $150.
I hope you don't plan on any newer games.
EDIT: found a 9600 XT 256MB for $145 on www.pricewatch.com

Well .... i got a deal for a 9550 modeable to 9600pro for 110 dollars here , but i dont like to play games , just Vice city San Andreas and i dont care playing in 800x600 , this cards worth like 50 dollars and seem like best bang for your buck .

San Andreas won't probably look very good with those cards if you want a decent frame rate you will need atleast a 9600 that game is going to be very graphical in the visual sense and sex/drugs/violence part. the new games coming out even the games like Hitman: Contracts are killing 4200's and 9600 with the visuals cranked all the way up. It's like an agreement between Graphics card companies and Game companies they are designing games for the newest of new cards and vise versa essentially screwwing the end user with new cards every year or two.
But if you are dead set on those cards then go with ATi always. You could wait until San Andreas is released for the PC in about 6 months and see what the reviews are saying is the lowest you can go, by then you might be able to afford an X800XT 8)

STICK WITH ATI!!! Although...how long are you planning to keep this computer until you rebuild or what not? If a long time...then i suggest you invest in a higher end card such as the 9600 PRO and above. good cards. I would i know..I have one. :D

Of course the higher you go the better.
Have you seen Vice City with a 9800XT? It looks breathtaking the amount of detail there is it puts the consoles to shame and beyond. But San Andreas will look like shit on a value card from today considering how looong it will be before it is realesed on the PC first PS2 in November then Xbox a few months later (maybe 3) then PC possibly 3 months after that.
By then it will be running on the dual Video Card PCI Express slots just to look good.

True. T-Bird is right about San Andreas. I sugguest you buy a better card this time around. I was in the same situation you were and i just decided to save up some more and now I have a card I dont regret getting.

Well he cold actually use a crappy vid card right now and wait for this generation's mid range cards to become available. As of right now I'd say you should get the 9200se even though its total garabage.

you bastard! You had to get my card didnt you? :D jk...you're going to love this card. I love it. How much did you get it for? They are reasonably cheap now especially the ATI Radeon 9600 XT. not much if a differences between the two so the PRO is good enough.

My Sony Vaio has the 9200 in it and I like it. With it and the computer, I can push the graphics up a bit when playing Flight Simulator 2004. This would be my second ATi card, and like you I don't play much on the computer. That's what I have an X-Box for.

well I guess.. but if you put the amount of bandwidth used on forums to the amount used for downloading files I guess it costs 10pence a month for all the forum posts I will make which works out at such a small amount per post its not really worth considering

Indeed.
How is the microsoft stock doing today? Should I buy at 20 a share?
hmm I think that google IPO could be worth a small investment.. after all they are the biggest and still growing, so as a slightly longer term investment it could be good :)

Indeed. It went public few days ago if I'm not mistaken. New stock, quite big, I guess its a better investment. But at 85$ its a little bit pricy I would say.

Intel? You know those Celerons sell like Coca Cola. And Dell using P4s with all the success they are having....Intel sounds like a good move, do you think so?
