What aperture/shutter speed did you use? And also, what lens and film (ISO and brand). Looks like an F11 (it has sharp focus from front to back). I guess the film was a ISO 800 or at least 400. Please gimme details! Was it a bulb exposure?

Excellent stuff SDK! Very sharp. And the warm colour in the sky in some pictures gives a nice atmosphere to them. This certainly is good wallpaper material.

Thanks for your comments :)

I took them using a cheap(ish) digital camera - Canon Powershot S30

http://www.btinternet.com/~ibizacluba/canon_s30.jpg

Depending on the photo I varied the shutter speed to between 6-13 seconds, an ISO of 100 or 200 and aperture values of 2.8 – 6.3

For these less technical - The lens on camera is open for approx 10secs and that allows the light from the passing cars to leave a trail. You can't see the cars, lorries or buses because they are not bright enough to show in the picture.

The original images are 2046x1536 but I’ve resized them all to 1024x768 - Click here to view (http://www.sdk2003.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Light_trail_gallery/index.html)

how did you adjust the shutter speeds on your camera. i want a new camera, i got one when digital cams first came out and now, like everthing, the pos is obsolete. how much was that camera if you dont mind me asking? do you like it?

I got the Camera last year and it cost £380 from the net. Now you can buy exact same camera but 5 Mega Pixels and a few other tweaks for the same money - Canon Powershot S50

The Camera has manual control settings (P, AV, TV & M). Using the TV setting (Timing Value) I can set the shutter speed from 1/2500sec all the way up to 15 seconds.

A tripod is also essential

Dang, I tried with my Olympus digital camera to play with the shutter a little.. but no luck LOL. I set it to around 4 seconds, just to see if it works, but the resulting pic was completely normal LOL!

Your min shutter is 16 seconds :)
Look for a 'Tv' mode then you can alter the shutter speed.

Read your manual

I know I know :) I read the manual, and it's pretty poor.. nothing about the shutter...
But I found it in the menus, and saw it can go from 1/800 to 16 seconds.. but even if I set it to 4 seconds, the camera took a standard pic anyway...

Your pics are amazing :D

I tried again, with the tripod... but well.. it does not work! I tried with 16", 10", 8" and even 4", but no idea why, the shutter seems to close after a single second... you can see it in this terrible try..

http://www.flytrap.it/public/ttsib/01.jpg

The I tried to play with the rev counter too ;)

http://www.flytrap.it/public/ttsib/02.jpg

But my hand was shaking again :D

Now I have to understand why the hell my Olympus refuse to set the shutter open for longer :(

Maybe you haven't got your camera set to the correct mode ??

Maybe you haven't got your camera set to the correct mode ??

No, it's completely straight forward.. I set it to various speeds, but nothing.. but then I found a review where they speak of shutter speed between 1 and 1/800th... so why the software has also all the other values? :( the camera fooled me :(
