Just curious...what is the best selling car in your country ??

Well, I'm from Poland and currently the order look like this:

Fiat Panda
Skoda Fabia
Toyota Yaris
Toyota Corolla
Ford Focus
Skoda Octavia
Opel Corsa
Peugot 206
Fiat Punto
Fiat Seicento

The Seicento was the best selling car last year, but ever since the Panda came out, it's sales have plunged by over 50%.

According to one commercial, the best selling "car" in Canada is the Dodge Caravan: http://www.car-buying-strategies.com/2002-photos/2002-dodge-caravan.jpg It's not really a car, but it is extremely popular.

Hopefully these numbers will give y'all some idea of the size of the US car market... and why GM and Ford produce generic cars and sell them like crazy.

Profit.. ;)

These are the December 2003 sales figures

GM sales fell 9.4 percent to 440,277 vehicles, hurt by weakening demand for the Chevrolet Silverado pickup. At Ford, sales dropped 8.1 percent to 271,371 vehicles.

Sales highlights for all of 2003:

* For the first time ever, the Toyota brand outsold the Ford brand in car sales.

* Toyota’s Lexus brand remained the top-selling luxury marque, with 2003 sales of 259,755 units, followed by BMW with sales of 240,859.

* The top-selling car remained the Toyota Camry, followed by the Honda Accord.

* The top-selling truck remained the Ford F-150, with sales of 845,586, up 4 percent from 2003.

Now by car do you mean just cars? Or do you mean by vehicles in general, because the F150 is the bestselling vehicle by a huge margin.

for about 18 years, the best selling car in brazil is the Volkswagen Gol, also known as VW Fox in some countries

Also called the VW Polo in Europa (slight differences but basically the same car I think).

Not exactly. VW Gol is a brazilian evolution of a former Golf (3 generations back, I think). VW Polo and now VW Fox (not the one exported to US 15 years ago) are also manufactured in Brazil.

After Gol, comes:
Fiat Palio
GM/Chevrolet Celta
GM Corsa
Fiat Uno (the original one, more than 2 decades old with minor changes!)
Ford Fiesta
Renault Clio
VW Fox
GM Astra
Fiat Siena (Palio sedan)
Toyota Corolla (best selling corporate car, it was GM Vectra's place)
Ford EcoSport (Fusion in Europe; Brazil's SUV for the masses)
Peugeot 206
Honda Fit
VW Polo
Fiat Strada (Palio pickup)
Ford Ka
GM Montana (Corsa pickup, recently redesigned).

The hottest thing in Brazilian market are "flex fuel" cars, capable of running with alcohol (metanol) or gasoline or any mix of them. Currently brazilian gasoline has 25% of metanol.

In brazil:

VW beetle (the old one);
VW gol (remember the rabbit);

New cars are like celebrity nipples, sometimes one pops here and there.

just a reminder that alot of car makers no longer or ever existed in big countries such as USA ,CANADA, and MExico
cars makers like:
ALL - Renault , Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Skoda, Alfa, and more....
and alot of cars dont exisit coz it probably wont fit the market. over suck as the Ka, polo , celta, fit , gol, cube etc...

so those would only benifit from european contries..

cars like the Corolla, Yaris (vitz/echo), golf , focus, civic exist in the WORLD market, not just the domestic markets..

Ford Capri 2.8i

In addition to the list of dani...the Seat Ibiza/Cordoba, the Citroen C3, and the pug 206, any 4 meter renault has always had a large number of sales(such as the renault 11, the renault 19, the first generation of the renault megane, the current megane) as well as the small renault has already had a good level of sales as well...such as the renault 5, or any generation of the renault clios.

Can you still buy the 'old' beetle in South America?

Wow! How much do they cost these days (roughly, in USD)

Is it still fitted with the old 1500cc air cooled motor, like 50hp or whatever? do they have air con and airbags these days?

What about the VW Gol? Is that a Mk1 Golf/Rabbit still in production then?

Enough with all this confusion, dudes! We are talking current best selling cars, not all times best selling cars, correct?
VW 'old' bettle is not manufactured anymore in the world. Last Brazilian old beetle is 4-5 years old. Last VW old beetle manufactured was from Mexico, stopped last year, if I am not wrong.
The Mk1 Golf/Rabbit was never manufactured in Brazil. Even the first VW Gol was based on the Golf, not exactly the Golf mk1.
The current version is more a brazilian version of Golf mk2 or 3 than the original one.
Just for you to know, Brazilian production is around 1.6MM cars/year.
