I think it's great Audi bought Lamborghini. Let's face it, Lamborghini can't survive on its own. Since the seventies when Ferruccio Lamborghini sold the company it has been in numerous hands. One worse than the other. Most recent owners were Chrysler and Megatech (some Indonesian company run by Tommy Suharto, the sun of the former dictator). Both companies didn't do a very good job IMO. Although Chrysler helped getting the Diablo into production, they interfered with all sorts of things, even the design. Imagine this: American executives telling Marcello Gandini how to design a car. The Diablo turned out to be a great car, but it's not as agressive as Gandini intended. Megatech was much worse. Many key figures left Lamborghini in that period. Both companies weren't able to develop the smaller Lamborghini that is now the Gallardo.

Audi is arguably the best owner Lamborghini has had. Audi invested a great deal in the factory and new cars. Has anyone visited Sant 'Agatha since Audi took over? Two years ago I saw how much the factory had been overhauled. From then on I knew Audi had good intentions with Lamborghini. I was almost getting emotional about it. It was clear to me that instant that Lamborghini was going to be able to compete with Ferrari in every way from then on. The Murciélago and the Gallardo reflect that. Lamborghini is still Lamborghini, it just got older and more professional under Audis wings.

I'm sure it'll get to the track. But it'll be in tough for a while. It'll be going up against fully developed Ferraris, Corvettes (not in FIA GT, I don't think), Saleens, and a Pagani that has been in development for a year and a bit now. It should even watch out for those 911's now and then. Then there's the Maserati (ie Enzo). Great looking car though.
