well, i know the ecu manages the program for the car, and well thats all i know!!!, since im dreaming of tuning a evo 8, i started to look for mods to the evo and i found this...

http://www.machevo.com/turboxsutec.html

the problem is... i dont understand ANYTHING there  (well, maybe a couple of things..lol)

i want to know what upgrades do you get from this, and well, what do i get if i change the ecu...

do i get a bigger HP number with this?

thanxs to all :D

Basically what it does is it changes the electronic management of the engine...you can change timing of the spark, injectors, change the amount of boost that your turbo is allowed to provide at a given throttle position, and I would say that 20-30 bhp is not out of the question for an ECU mod.

If you change the ECU (tune it) then you're essentially doing what this device claims to be able to do with the stock ECU...in essence it just claims to modify the software settings of the ECU to allow for variations in timing, boost and so forth for your engine.

hey, whats up!? long time no post...anyways...i've been doing up a scooby sti as a project car and we used a utec on it also...lets just say the utec is an ecu management program which controls everything that the ecu should and more...the utec can be mapped/tuned to the driver's situation, for example...racing mode with high octane, the utec will reconfigure the settings of the sparks, the boost, the air/fuel ratio, you get the idea...turbo xs has a good utec for the sti and i know they have one for evo also...the utec basically is a good investment cause of the variety of uses in the future, lets just say you slap on a different turbo for more power in, you can remap the utec and play with it to get the optimum performance of yur new goodies!!! btw the txs utec is gonna give you at least 25-30 hps from a stock setting evo...

And you void your warranty by doing so if you'ra still covered :fadein:

you dont really void your warranty, because you can always set the ECU back to the stock program. dealerships have no way of checking past programs.

the UTEC is a very capable tool and nathaniel and the guys at TurboXS know their stuff. he was driving a low 12sec WRX while most people where still learning how to put a boost gauge in.

I know how you feel man. I went and looked at LS1edit which sounds a bit like UTEC, it baffled me... It'd be great to tune my ECU and get 30hp or whatever, but I aint gonna play with something I dont understand :(

arent there plug and play applications or reflashes for your ecu transam?

what about pre tuned maps?

85% of people just want the added HP, the other 15% are the ones that dick around with tuning.

dont spend the money on the UTEC, look for a plug/play chip or app.

i think the utec would be better than the plug and play chips because of the different maps that you can choose from...

yeah, but he is going to pay $1,000 for technology he will never really use. does he need a totally usertunable harness? probably not.

there are solutions out there to fit your needs.

take what I am going to order for example.

its made by Cobb and is called the AccessECU. basically a little box, that i can download Cobb tuned maps onto and flash them into my ECU. all different kinds of maps for various parts, security mode, valet mode, economy mode, etc.. even my stock WRX program.

its $500 and the maps are pretuned and userfriendly

im sure they make something like that for the EVO.

I haven't a clue, man! I've not looked that hard just yet to be honest.

I posted a message on my LS1 thread earlier in 'car mods' section FAO RC45 as he seems to know quite a bit about the LS1 motor:

I just basically want some advice as to the best and cheapest way to get a few more HP, better throttle response, etc. When I say a few more, I mean like 50 would be nice, I don't want to start spending thousands of bucks though, so I'll throw it back at you. Am I going to get anywhere near my 50hp goal for say, $500?

I want the car to look stock when I come to sell it, hence I was thinking ECU upgrade is the stealthiest way.

I'd like to get more air flowing in, using the 'free' modifications such as taking a dremel to the bottom of the airbox, taking the restrictor out of the throttlebody, and one or two other things I found on www.installuniversity.com. I have a mate with an SS (a wiser and older guy than I) who's already pointed out some of these things.

My car, being the WS6, has the upgraded exhaust thus my next question is: can I get away with doing the intake work described above to let more airflow into the motor, and remapping the ECU, and then get say another 50-60hp while keeping the stock WS6 'upgraded' muffler/cat/headers? I don't really want a noiser exhaust system (although intake roar is fine) nor do I want to spend $500 on a catback for 8hp!!

Any advice appreciated

Thanks again guys.

now, i have driven a Seat Leon 1.8 cupra kit with a plug and play chip, and it rocked,

could any of you guys tell me how to search for one?

thanx!
