I hope many if not all had the privaledge of seeing the Top Gear special. Do you agree with their picks for greatest cars? Why or why not? What would you replace them with? I agreed almost completely. The McLaren is no doubt the best car ever built, despite what many magazines claim the Enzo is still not faster. No doubt it is barely any slower but it is still not quicker or faster. Plus it is a paddle shift, which I can't imagine is any fun after 5 minutes. The McLaren was tested 0-100mph in 6.4 seconds on top gear 10 years ago but magazines claim somewhere around 7.7? I am utterly confused when it is nearly 1.5 seconds slower then what top gear and McLaren claim the car is capable of. Do you think it has to do with the driver? For example Enzo claims 3.3 second 0-60mph and 6.6 second 0-100mph. Top Gear tested McLaren 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds and 0-100mph in 6.4 seconds... Tell me what you think.
My top 3 picks for all time greatest cars and why...
1. McLaren F1, technilogically advanced, unparalled customer service, formula 1 style layout, 627 Hp, engine bay lined with gold, CF body, fastest production vehicle of all time, only 100 ever made.
2. Ferrari F50, formula 1 derived motor, CF body, suspension mounted to the gearbox, closest thing you can get to driving a formula 1 car on the street, an actual open gate 6 speed transmission (Enzo paddle shift=poop), handles better then a McLaren, it's a FERRARI!!
3. Last but not least the Ferrari F40, twin turbo Ferrari V8, 470+ Hp, race ready, light, CF, fuel cells, open gate shifter, it's a FERRARI!!

The enzo will certainly not get boring after 5 min, i think most people would bet that the enzo would be faster than a mclaren around a track due to it superior handling, and the acceleration is .1/.2 in difference. i would have liked to see the f50 on there, oh well

True it might be a few seconds faster if that, but it doesnt require as much skill to drive it fast as a McLaren does. Enzo has TCS ( traction control ) big reason why it would kill the McLaren. Tiff Needell could barely handle the McLaren when he drove it and he is a very great driver. Driving a McLaren would be like trying to tame a blood thirsty bull. By 5 minutes I was also exagerating... I sure as hell wouldn't turn down an Enzo but I would never choose it over a McLaren... my intended message I was trying to get across.

A noticeable mention should be one of the most underrated cars of all time: 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO, the first supercar that started it all with the Porshe 959, and before the F40

the 288 GT isn't the first supercar, the Lamborghini Miura is. but i do believe that tne Porsche 959 is the first AWD supercar, correct me if i'm wrong st-anger.

well the greatest car in the world for ME is a very easy and obvious choice if you don't noe wut i'm talking about, plz look at my avatar, and my sig and then take taht car and go back to 1966 and that is the greatest car ever made.

I agree with the fact that the McLaren does look like a harder car to drive but I don't know what you mean by the traction control comment. Using traction control on a racetrack actually HINDERS a cars performance since it takes away power the moment it senses a loss of grip. Just because a car doesn't have 100% grip doesn't mean its not in control. In some instances, not having 100% grip actually means that you are going faster. I would be willing to bet that if the Ferrari had its TCS turned on, the McLaren would easily beat it.

Well IMO I think that the Koenigsegg CCR would have to be the best cabecause it's got the most advanced technology, it's more powerful than the McLaren, It's faster than the McLaren, and you can adjust the the car to how you want it.

I'm not too sure the Koenigsegg is faster than the McLaren. I don't think they've done an offical top speed test with it yet. Its damn nice machine though. I personally like the Miura or the P3/4s, although the McLaren isn't far behind.

well the C8S is officially the most powerful road car right now, but no speed record have been set yet, but it's like 100% that the CCR will be faster then the F1.

I'm not a huge fan of the Enzo becuase I think they got carried away with F1 technology and forgot about the driver satisfaction part...still a great car though!

I am a HUGE fan of the CGT..and its certainly the second best car in the world IMO...but The McLaren F1 is the best built and best engineered car to date, McLaren didnt cut any corners what so ever in building this car, and unlike the CGT they didnt have to worry about making sure they sold that many..Porsche didnt want to make the same mistake they made with the 959..while it was a great car it didnt sell..aside from track times the McLaren is the best ever..

OK... So we have some good debate... I dont think you understood what I meant by the TCS comment though Silvia Drift. In a McLaren you can't go balls out around corners... One advantage the Enzo has, meaning that you if sliding would most like have to counter steer let off gas etc. to avoid a big spin. The Ferrari has so many handling advantages over a McLaren, better down forces, better skidpad tests, lower to the ground, wider, wider tires, heavier etc. I dont think you understand how TCS works, it is nowhere near like Gran Turismo, but for shits and giggles take anything on Gran Turismo and try to get a better lap time with TCS off then with it on, cause it wont happen. TCS off = Fun not faster

Difficult to say what would be the greatest car of all time, because you'd first have to define 'great'.

Is it raw speed, handling, innovative technology, succesful design, aesthetic, commercial succes? Knowing the general penchant here, it would be speed and handling, but then you'd cut cars short that have meant a lot for the industry in general. Cooper revolutionised the world of (Formula) racing and thus is indirectly responsible for a lot of innovation. As were cars like the Citroen DS (active suspension, steering headlights, etc, etc) Volkwagen Golf (massively introducing the hatchback and the GTI) or Lotus for lightweight en superior handling.

Too many things to consider, so you only can point out your personal favorites.

Personally, I think Porsche has done the most for automotive history, both racing-wise and streetwise.

Greatest car of all time has to fly, be able to have fuel that is environment safe, look nice and be fast. Or the Oscar Myer Wiener Truck.

Yeah, there has been so many great cars. That is so hard to choose.

Man, it is hard even picking one personal best.

The first car that comes to mind is probably the Ferrari 360CS.

With this choice being posted I have to counter-offer... if you have to go Ferrari then the F40 is a no brainer.. ;)

^^^ better yet 288 GTO.

I would give the 288 a 90% vote... it has everything, except the looks of the F40... the F40 appears more functional than the Maranello Goat.. :P

meh 288 GTO doesn't have the F40 hardcore look, btu i love how it look, and it is more road car then race car compare to the F40. don't mean that it is slow though, cuz it isn't.
