Damn it doesn't seem like much now but when you have had to put up with a 56k modem for the last 6 months and trips back to the office to upload Top Gear at 1 am...it kinda seems like the fastest connection in the world right now...and its only 1MB/256

I was getting some good upload speed's last night - between 30-32 kB /sec and managed to upload the following videos.

Tyson vs William (inc pre & post fight analysis)

KGB - Secret UFO Files PR 1

KGB - Secret UFO Files PR 2

Prepare yourself for plenty more videos over the next few days.

That's great news!! And upstream is kinda enough even for 100 to 200 MB files IMO!

Can't wait for the next load to come :D

They took their time, it was schedule for june isn't it ?
Anyway, that 's a good news, i don't know how i could do if i had to do with a 56k connection :?
Hopefully you had DSL in work !! :D

The exchange was enabled on 28th July and I got activated on the 3rd of August so I guess I cant complain.

No, you can't  I thought it was scheduled for june.
BTW, what are your speeds in your workplace ?

Jabba
08-05-2004, 06:01 AM
Not much better 2MB/256....but we are looking at bonded ADSL right now that would give us upto 8MB/1MB

http://www.nildram.net/pdf/bondedbroadband.pdf

Just imagine being able to UPLOAD Top Gear in about 25 minutes.

To celebrate I couldnt resist buying a wireless notebook for browsing JW in the garden.

It felt kinda weird though last night uploading videos from outside that are flying through the air over to my router and then onto the JW server.

Not a bad price and I am 100% happy with everything so far.

hey jabba you should look at a toshiba tablet. My father has one and it is really cool. he just installed an 11G wirless card so it can keep up with our nework connect some what. anyway that is a nice laptop. how far does the wireless system allow you to go?

Jabba
08-05-2004, 08:07 AM
its great when you can relax in your garden with the sun up, a cold one in your hand and JW on the lcd..... :D

how far from the house do you have accses to the net?

btw thats one very clean carpet........"jabba the housekeeper"....

hahahah you don't miss a trick !!!

Well its a room that I don't really use hence the carpet has remained in its "new" state

On the subject of floors....after all the work that was put into my wood flooring...it all had to be sanded down and re-done...as the first attempt didn't work properly (the top layer started to mark badly).

Anyway...after a lot of mess (a mini sand storm) having to pack all my computers away (another reason to buy the notebook) it is all finished...and ready for a different type of wood varnish...that so far looks much better.

It has been a real nightmare....as prior to the sanding they all had to be stripped with a paint stripper type chemical (nitro moors).

I should think it added another £3K onto the whole project...that makes me feel absolutely sick...(probably a couple of doors on the M3CSL that I am dreaming off)

Anyway as you say....as long as it looks good in the end....then thats the most important thing.

I have tested the wireless network out to around 100ft and it dropped down to 11MB...I am going to try alot more testing tonight....I also have a few phone sockets that I can move the router to that might improve the performance slightly.

I thought that might be a problem with wireless as you live in such a big ass house

Jabba

I think you can buy extra wireless access points...but on a 1MB connection 11MB is still ok....I have a wired 1 gigabyte network for shifting the bigger video files around.

Yes there was alot of running about at past midnight getting the videos uploaded so you got to see Top Gear shortly after it was aired....also got pulled by the Police on one occasion as I think they thought I was trying to break in or something...they asked me why I was going to the office so late....I couldn't exactly say to upload TG for JW....so I just said I had some work to sort out...I think they thought either this guy is very dedicated to his job or he is some sort of weirdo nut....probably a bit of both I guess.

LOL... a person arrives at the office in a new 3-series/355/Diablo and you get asked if you are breaking in

I really appreciate what you have been doing, but i get to watch the shows on TV usually, so i guess our foreign members are even more grateful.. if that's possible 8)

I am still on the run I guess from Josh and the BBC....the trouble with the police around here is they are suspicious of everything that is slightly out of the ordinary....I guess legging it across a private car park with a CD in my hand wearing a tracksuit at midnight can be seen as fairly suspicious behavior.

Good to see your ADSL worked out in the end! Pitty about the floor nitemare, that nitro moors shit is lethal!!!!! I used that to strip the paint off me windows, became quite high in the process, even using it in 'a well ventilated area'!! It also strips skin as effectively as paint!
Hope the finish is alright now, we used a stain rather than varnish on our floors, seem to be holding up fine after a year or more's abuse!

is this for real? its an interesting concept lol

congrats on getting high speed at home... ive been extremely grateful for the many times ive d/l shortly after available way across the pond!

in regards to 56mb wireless... ive successfully surfed the web from about 500 yards away from a neighbors 56mb connection (in a car that was stopped) depending on what frequency your router runs at, it could have some major distances available (lower freq = further access)
