Once in the world rallying world has lasted a lot of years since its creation, and once the rallying world has brought a lot of brilliant drivers in the history of rallying....id like to get your best rally driver ever, and why

My vote goes for Carlos Sainz......although there have been brilliant drivers such as Walter Rohrl, Tommi Makinen, Henri Toivonen, Juha Kankkunen at least, i dont see anyone able to run for 16 years all together in the world championshiprunning in many differents types of cars such as a rear wheel drive the group A, a 4x4 group A, the WRC,....and be able a world title contender in the last race of every year that he have run(except the 1993 year with Lancia which was a desastrous year)...and be able to win races of every type....the gravel of 1000 lakes, the safari, the acropolis, on tarmac.....one of the few drivers to get a scratch taking part in his world rally ever, be able himself to fight against the whole lancia team.......

Sainz for me, too. Tghough finnish drivers (vatanen) are impressive also.

My vote goes to Makinen, I think his 4 world championships speak for themselves.

Sainz is definitely one of the best ones. But I think Juha Kankkunen is/was as good as Sainz. Kankkunen also challenged for the victory for a long time... Took his first win with RWD Toyota in Safari (1985) and last one with 4WD Subaru in 1999.

Still, I think Henri Toivonen would've been the greatest ever. He only had three victories before his death but there would've been much more to come. There clearly was talent as he made very impressive results(including an F1 test for March during which he beat the factory driver by several seconds).

I don't think he can be considered the best ever with only a few seasons and one WC under his belt. But if he makes a comeback sometime soon and starts winning rallys again one day he might be, but not yet.

For me Walter Rohrl, stig bloqmvist, with Kankunen and Sainz are the top 4, with Toivonen my no.5, since i agree that if he had lived he would become one of the all time greatest.

But, i have to place Rohrl as my all time No-1.

Walther Røhl is probably the most complete driver anywhere, having won in pretty much any condition or class short of F1.

But for WRC, I'd have to say Carlos Sainz. He's amazing, that guy is still dishing it out like he did twenty years ago and towards the end of even teh wost races you can expect him to mount a massive attack on. Don't know how he does it, but somehow he's just always there at the thick end.

Of the current crop, I'd say Loeb even though I'm Norwegian and probably should say Petter ;) Did you see him start driving tactically as well in Finland, this does not bode well for the Good Guy[TM] (yup, that's petter )
