View Full Version : Bloody XBox Live!... grrrrrr
OK XBox live guru's... let's see it for this one?
I have an XBox Live! compatible broadband router... appears on the list by name and firmware version.
When I connect the XBox to one of it's ethernet ports, the XBox does not even recognize a cable is connected...
But when I connect the XBox to a port on one of the switches I have upstream (on my home network) of the broadband router, the XBox sees the connection, but XBox Live! is unreachable...
So.... what do y'all suggest... ???????

well the fucked up thing with my connection (it did the same thing) I had to unplug my modem and Xbox then connect the two together and then plug the Xbox THEN the Modem and they recognized eachother and I was in good order from that point on.
Just wondering what broadband service do you have? Company connection (it will help)
and what router do you have?
Its a D-Link DI-604... compatible firmware version (not stated to keep the hackers guessing.. ;))
Time Warner Roadrunner ISP
So I need to turn the freeking router off for the XBox to recognize it? WTF is up with that...
The idea of having to reset the conneciton to other systems to satusfy the XBox really sucks doesn't it.

it was a bitch yes but I only had to do it once so it wasn't that bad I guess since most everything automatically went to how it was before except now Xbox Live worked.
so you have 2.18, 3.2 or 3.36 on a DI-604  or that IS the problem.
If the reset doesn't work I'm sure something on this page of known error messages can solve the problem and they even have troubleshooting for some of the popular ISP's like AOL, Comcast and Yahoo maybe your's or you can also try your ISP's website if all else fails.

mm
make sure your using the right cables, there are differnt ones but iam not an expert, like you can't you a system link cable through a router or modem it dosnt work.
BTW when you get on my gamera tag is cho888
Well a little troubleshooting later this is where we stand.
Disconnectin my entire network from the cable modem and connectin the XBox directly to the cable modem gets a connection.
Connecting my DI-604 to the cable modem allows all my internal ethernet devices to connect to the Internet.
When connecting the Xbox to any internal switch, the XBox recognises that a cable is connected, but it fails to find the XBox Live! network.
When connecting the XBox to a free port on the DI-604 - the XBox does not even recognize a cable is connected. Even when turning the XBox off and the DI-604, and turning the DI-604 on after the XBox is turned on or before the XBox is turned on. (or any combination of the above)
The bottom line is the XBox will not see the DI-604 when connected to it, but will see a switch port but cannot route to the XBox Live! network.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[EDIT] Are you supposed to connect the XBox to the router with a cross-over or straight through cable? I have been using a straight through - I cannot imagine it needs a cross over.. but one never knows hey... ;)

I'm not sure about that part I have an open port directly from my modem that I use. you could try calling or E-mailing them and they might have some insight into the problem. did you try manually entering all the connection info yourself? like the MAC address and ip etc... that's another alternative.
Edit I found that some ISP's require that you hook up your Xbox directly to the modem disconnecting your modem altogether for some stupid ass reason.
The problem is long before the ISP comes into play.
The XBox ethernet port simply does not recognise any connection or acknowledge traffic when a cable is connected between it and a port on the DI-604.
Almost as if the actual port on the DI-604 is not "powered on". But if I connect ANY other ethernet device/switch to the same port on the DI-604, it owrks like a champ.
The XBox just refuses to see the DI-604.
They (Microsoft and DLink) specifically list the 2.18, 3.2 or 3.36 version of the Firmware... the two latest Firmware upgrades do NOT appear on that list - so I am NOT going to flash the router.
I do have one of the 3 compatible firmware versions listed.
The XBox just won't recognise the cable when plugged into the DI-604... go figure.

"Thankyou for your patience, we are experiencing a lagre number of calls. Your call is important to us, please hold.. blah blah blah.."
Let's see how long they take to answer and solve the problem.. :)
OK - got this stupid SOB working...
The problem??
Simple - the XBox NIC port is suffering form "bad manufactur". Friggin thing has some dry solder joints. So if you patiently wiggle the NIC cable about it eventually works predictably.
So I got the XBox to download all its new Live! updates etc.
I may just meet some you blokes online sometime.
BTW, does PGR2 have any sort of replay mode - other than inside game?
