Ok, here is the story. I was sittin around with some friends bsing about random car stuff. Anyways the topic came up that if he was given a ferrari would he be able to afford to maintain it. So any of you (rich bastards ) who own ferrari's. How much does it cost for a tune up? Oil change? etc...

Interesting question although I don't own one I may be able to give you an idea. It really depends on what model and year really. 328's are known to be the most reliable ferrari ever built. Timing belt replacement is very important if one break's probably gonna cost 10K+ for a rebuild. It typical 30K mile service on a 328 is in the $3,000 range depending on where you go. It's should be done every 30K miles or 5 years. 355's the engine must come out so it's more than that I'm pretty sure. V12's are typically quite a bit more expensive. Most of these cars hold 10 quarts of oil. I know the Enzo does and the oil is like $70 a quart . If you don't use the special oil for the enzo it voids your warranty.

Well, an oil change on an Enzo is $600 and to replace the enitre breaking system is something like $20K! Obviously, most other Ferrari's would be considerably cheaper, but I'm sure it's still very expensive.

if you are rich enough to own a ferrari, you are rich enough not to care about the sevice price.

Well.. you can buy 70ies Ferrari for the same price as an average middle class family car... let's say something around 17k or 18k GBP (around 27500 USD)... so you can be reach enough to buy one, and many are.. but I'm sure there are many that bought one thinking it will be easy to keep it fit.. and discovered soon enough you still have to own a pretty generous bank account to maintain it ;)

Yeah TT is right. I'm pretty sure a lot of people can BUY a 308. But maintaining it is what costs you big time. And insurance.

Yeah Jabba give us some numbers. And how much do you pay for insurance?

Well I bought my 355 from Ferrari UK (Maranello Sales) and took it back there for the first service...they completely ripped me off for the some of £1600...which based on previous experience I was expecting to be around £700...anyway in the process of trying to locate a Tubi Exhaust specialist (as Maranello are not allowed to fit them) I found 2 ex Maranello mechanics that had set up their own business and not only did they provide an excellent personal service but they were also a fraction of the cost of a main dealer....

here are some examples for the F355

basic service £268 (main dealer £800)
"B" service £740 (main dealer £1500)
cambelt service £980 (main dealer £2900)

So there you can see...Ferraris dont have to be expensive to maintain if you have access to somebody that you can trust to look after your car..and doesnt charge main dealer prices....in fact my BMW has cost more to run then my Ferrari this year....

Its also nice that you are actually paying the guys that are doing the work on your car....Maranello's labour rate is £95 per hour...somehow I doubt they pay their mechanics anywhere near that amount....

By the way these guys also race their own cars in the Ferrari challenge series...here is some more infomation on them....

QV was formed in 1985 by Mike Lester and Phil Warburton, who previously had been employed by Maranello since 1974. During the first 18 months of trading, service work and repairs on Ferrari formed the bulk of their work. In 1986 they decided to enter a 512 BB in the Michelin/Maranello Ferrari Challenge race, which was a great success, finishing 1st in class. In 1987 it was decided that a 308 GTB would be built to try and win the series outright - the car won 5 races from 8 starts, winning the championship.

During the following 16 years QV entered 11 different cars in a total of 192 races, winning the Ferrari Championship outright 5 times, the last time in 1999 in a F355.

For 2003, QV are involved with Steve Moody and Marco Attard running a 360 Challenge car in the Marenello Ferrari Challenge.

The ring at Nurburgring which nestles menacingly in the Adneau Forest is a majestic circuit to end all circuits. It was here that QV had their most daunting challenge, to compete with Porsche and BMW in their own backyard in a 24-Hour race. After a slow but methodical start they managed to knock 2 minutes from the qualifying time to complete the 24 hours without any mechanical problems, covering 2014 miles and finishing 2nd in class.

During all these years building and racing Ferrari, QV have developed modified parts to improve road-going cars, regarding road holding kits, six pot brake kits, sport pack engine kits etc. Some standard Ferrari parts are now becoming more difficult to source new, even from Ferrari dealers - QV now manufacture various standard type parts and carry a vast stock of second hand parts.

the body kit looks very much like the hamman one. It's ok but I wouldn't do that to a Ferrari. they're perfect as they are. :)

Jabba, I ask this question not so long ago,I never got a reply...What Oil do you use in your ferrari? Is it Shell Helix Ultra?Because On those bottles of oil, they have this thing saying that Ferrari recommends it.Its got 0-40w,or something like that.
