I'm not sure how many of you will be interested in this but i'd thought i'd put it up anyway as i know theres some tech heads out there ;) I've just completed my a levels (just waiting for the results now) before I head of to uni to hopefully study motorsport engineering. Cars being a love of mine i decieded to do part of my physics coursework on the internal combustion engine. Got full marks for it too ;)

Its not too long as part of the criteria of the c/w is to be precise and it dosen't go into too much detail but here you go, hope theres a few of you out there that like this kinda reading ;)

Frightening.... a lot of that looks almost precisely the same as my waves and light class from 2 years ago. Thermodynamics, the Otto cycle AAAAHHHHH hehehe. I actually like reading this sort of thing, nice job mindgam3, very well put together and informative. Just wait until you start pulling data off of engines on dyno-cells. That stuff is really fun, you end up getting graphs that look a hell of a lot like some of the ones you posted, especially if you're working with newer engines.

hehe too right, im really looking forward to my course at uni, gonna be 4 or 5 years long depending on whether i get onto the masters or bachelors course, either way i should eventually become a chartered engineer and i can start working my way into F1 ;)

Should get to work in the formula student competition during my uni years too which looks great ;)

I second that, a tech section, perhaps a superset that could also contain car modifications and help etc...would be a cool thing to have on here even though we tend to cover most of the tech stuff one way or another anyway.

we have a section for modifications to cars. i don't post here alot, but are there some members in the know-how about the more advanced questions? for such as piston ring spacing kinda stuff?

that would be cool, especially those involved in racing teams. :D
