Hi guys,
I am in the process of pursuing a job opportunity at Poland, the story started sometime ago when I applied at P&G Egypt here for an IT position and then I got a call informing me that they no longer need someone here in Egypt but I was accepted and P&G Poland needs someone in the IT so they asked me if I'm willing to travel, I said yes, they said they'll take further actions then and if I get it I will relocate to Poland.
So I am asking you for help, I need to know all I can about how it is living in Poland, the standard of living, security, anything someone like me can benefit from when making the decision.
I am sure JW has members from Poland who can give me valuable information.
Thanks a million in advance
My girlfriend is Polish and she says you should stay in Egypt if possible LOL... but well, she never lived in Ehypt..
Fleichmann lives in Poland and I'm sure he will help :)

lol, no seriously is it that bad !?
Well maybe it's just because we live in Switzerland and when we visit her aunt (Krakov) or hear things about life there, yes it seems pretty bad... but again.. could be just because we are "lucky" :(

from what i hear poland has a very high alchol consumption because the weather is always cold, and there is nothing to do.
doesen't sound like the most exiting place.

I wouldn't walk the streets at night there. The police suck. If you defend yourself, then you are "participating in a fight" and you may be arrested too. Car theft is horrible, and drunk assfucks roam the streets looking for trouble. The cost of living is pretty cheap and the women are beautiful, though.

Thanx guys, so did you visit Poland or is it just things u hear, friends been there, etc.?
I've done my homework and compared some facts about Poland to Egypt here (from the CIA world factbook), I think it's (a lot) more advanced a country than Egypt.
Check this out:
Although Poland's population is half the population here, the workforce number is similar.
Military expenditure in 2003 in Poland is double that of Egypt's (means they're richer)
Life expectancy is 74 years in Poland, versus 70 in Egypt (means better health services and environment)
Total number of telephone lines (mobile+land) is double that of Egypt, with half the population.
Internet users are 4 times the number in Egypt, Internet hosts' (ISPs) number is a whopping 200 times the number in Egypt.
General economy figures are also comin out on Poland's side.
But then again, I know these are all just hard facts and numbers and can't possibly represent the quality of living there, so any input you can make is really greatly appreciate it.
Thanks everybody, keep'em comin please

My friend was in Poland halfyear ago and he was amost rubbed ... well they run away very quickly
I have been there 12-13 years ago as a kid and when I came from russia to poland I tought its heaven, at that time we didnt have almost nothing in the stores in russia and in Poland there was everything you wanted. Bt same problem, there was some young bitchy kids who threatened us like they'll kick us and so, later we kicked them(when our teacher havent seen us )
But Polish people IMO are great people, just like all eastern people

I live in Poland at the moment, and honestly, if you live in Warsaw, its not bad at all... except for the roads!
Yes I confirm Krakov is indeed great. Sure i stayed 3 days and as a tourist of course it's completely different. The "rich" areas are really nice and comparable to others European cities, but the poor ones are sometimes really "poor" :(
Krakov as probably Warsaw too is really more and more "europeanised" IMO, similar to Prague I'd say... and of course if you have a good income you can live pretty well there...

my favourite eastern european city is Budapest though
Budapest is nice, but I don't like Hungarian people (I'm sorry, but I didn't find them friendly). Prague is very nice IMO.

Prague is VERY nice  Thats why I live here. And I cannot say its dangerous in any part of it more that in other or other part of Czech, just maybe part of Prague where gipsy's lives, its dirty, stinky and you wanna thowup :| but still its not big part of the city, and you'll smell when you get here
I might make some pix of the city later and put it here so you can see what you can see in Prague.

To ARMAN: Not just Prague is nice in Czech, dude  !!! My town is smaller, but I like it more. Gipsies are everywhere u'll have a look I mean Eastern Europe :x and that SUCKS :!: But about Poland > I think if u'll b in bigger town (more than 100.000ppl), it'll b ok... not great as in west, but ok

I just got back 2 weeks aho after spending a month near and in warsaw. I would say it has it's +'s and -'s. The hot girls are everywhere. And most stay alot thinner than in the US. There are alot of shady looking people around at night. I never encountered any problems but i was with friends as well. My main complaint is I couldn't get a damn breakfast sandwich. :) I'll probably be going back next year as well.

Thanks guys, that was really useful, gave me a lot to think about....
Now if my work thing does happen and I am to go to Poland I think the income should be pretty good and I'd be in Warsaw, and that should be nice as I get from your replies....
It's a good thing to know that the big cities there are comparable to European cities, that is a whole different league than here...
Thanks again fellaz, I really appreciate it. and please post again if you have anything more to say.
And where are you Fleichmann :?:

Hi
This is one of my first messages on this jabbas forum. As I can see I think I can help you pretty much with your problem becouse I live in Poland.
I would like to comment a little bit of all of the posts I read.
As TT's girlfriend said you shouldn't go to Poland.
Well many Polish leaves Poland taking a job in other European countries. Today it's easier becouse of the fact we are in European Union. Some people leave Poland looking for work in Egypt for excample or Greece and so on.
But seriously if you have opportunity to come to Poland and if the person is not cheating you with the job oppotunity in poland just come over hear.
It's not bad in poland I can say so becouse I was living in Australia for a half of my life and I can compare it to Poland.
Last time I was In Au about 4 tears ago (during the olypics) and what I could see after a year of living there that I can't find so many Ferraris and other sport cars in poland as in Australia, but Mercedes or other European you are likly to see it maybe even more often.
possessed_beaver sayd that alcochol consumption is high in hear. yes it is. There is a lot of people that live in very low conditions (no work, I thik that hear is big unempoyment and these people dring o lot. But this is you can see all over the world. If we talk about alcochol you will have a chance to drink very good Polish beer. The hing consumption is not becpuse the weather. (Beer is not an alcochol even if it contain 5,6 or more % of alcochol :) )
The thing what DanielW said is not true all. I mean you don't have to be affraid in the night. I'm sure that in Chicago you can walk at night not being horrified in all suburbs.
In big city there are suburbs as normal there are better and worse, the same as everywhere. What about the thefts?? Whell there is not much diffrence beetwen germany and poland in this case. There is a stereotype that Polish still cars and so on. Polish are not special this problem is everywhere and it's not so horrible. I never had a car stolen. And yes the cost of leaving Are quite low but not everywhere. IF you wont a luxury appartment in center in Warsaw (well the prises are even higher than in Paris or sth I don't remeber)
everso said a lot of true stuff but it ain't happen again. Afcourse in the worst suburbs yes.
As I see Poland it has bad and good points. I think you shouldn't be worried about. If you have any questions just ask.
Regards to all :)

Well hey if your not millionaire (in USD, EUR) in Egypt then go for Poland ANYTIME. Cto Some western countires yes - people have born, lived, and dies with silver spoons in their mouth and everything has been given to them on a platre but still. Poland is very OK!

Maja thank you very much. This was really really useful.
Unfortunately P&G never called again so I guess it's not going to happen. But at least now I know I'm OK with goin to P&G Poland :) in case it happens sometime in the future.
And tanelvali, I'm not a millionaire at all, i'm not even a "thousandaire" I'm an average guy who graduated from Computer Science faculty 2 years ago and I don't even have a car right now. (Average ppl don't drive cars in Egypt)
So well, we'll see what happens with this one. It just happens that I'm waiting for my last interview at Microsoft for a position in Redmond, Washington. I already passed one. So who knows, maybe I'm goin to Uncle Sam's after all.
I would have to post another thread if I get accepted then :D
But really, thank you everybody, you were really very supportive and helpful. Thank you so much
