July 19, 2004 - Want another look at the freaky-looking Batmobile in Batman Begins? IGN FilmForce has obtained a series of "spy pics" of Batman's new ride that were apparently taken while preparations were being made for a promotional photo shoot for a major retailer. You can view a couple of the images below and click them to view larger versions and eight additional pics.

The new Batmobile, which began life as a Wayne Industries military prototype called The Tumbler, is 2.5 tons, 15 feet long, and has a 350-cubic-inch Chevy engine capable of 500 horsepower. It is equipped with front-firing machine guns, a landing hook and, as you can see, 4 rear super swamper tires.

The Caped Crusader's vehicle is also taking a page from Knight Rider's KITT. Batman Begins producer Charles Roven told the NY Daily News that the car can turbo boost. "It has to get up to 220 mph to get airborne, but then it can jump 20, 30, maybe 40 feet," Roven said. To perform this gravity-defying act, the Batmobile utilizes its jet engine and vector controls.

In other Bat-news, fans should be aware of a Batman Begins panel that will take place at Comic-Con International on Friday, July 23 (from 12:30-2:00). Scheduled guests include screenwriter David Goyer and actor Cillian Murphy, who plays Dr. Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow in the film.

Sources tell IGN FilmForce that the Batman Begins trailer will most likely be attached to Fox's Alien vs. Predator when it releases on August 13.

Exactly what I was thinking. . .

The first one was still the best.

Actually I think originally the Batmobile was suppose to be a modified Maserati.

SPEakinga bout batmobiles!! I saw the 1970's batmobile on the road a couple of weeks agO!! And Im not shitting you. It was the one with the big jet engine on the back and painted red and black. Two old dudes were driving it and we waved and everyone else did. lol it was awesome! Now thats almost as cool as seeing a Mclaren F1 on the road........almost. But it was definitely the batmobile! If curious where I saw it, it was up in Petoskey Michigan

That would be too good to be true. I wonder why he doesnt. Surely they would have offered him plenty of $$$$.

Maybe directors who do movies like this dont get the freedom they want, i.e. the studio execs breathing down their neck telling them 'you cant do that, etc', its a pretty big movie franchise after all.

Fuck, they screwed up bigtime, looks like a Judge Dredd piece of crap.

Batman's cars have always been sleek and stylish, this looks like an LSD trip gone wrong...
